Zoing may not be much better...

WF/GFMKI: "Does this make me look fat (or skinny)?

DeadGuy: "Zoing! "

RUPD is of course absolutely correct in assessing that there is no answer to that question which will not cause one pain. Even dead silence will incur wrath.

It is best to simply curl up in a fetal position and mumble "I don't wanna die. I don't wanna die." when faced with such situations.

So Bruce, couple questions for you.

Doesn't the shuttle become quite ionized during re-entry? How do they deal with that?

Is it hot (with radiation) space and then re-entry?

Very hot. Those gray areas on the leading edge of the wing are reinforced carbon carbon. They can reach 3000DegF. The black tile is a silica. It also gets very hot. You can touch the stuff 5 minutes after you take it out of a 3500DegF oven. I know I've done it. Back before 9/11 the thermal engineers did demonstrations for the kids on take your child to work day. It was really "cool".

The heat is the heat of friction (not heat due to radiation) as they re-enter the atomsphere.

I seem to recall as a child getting a demonstration on the heat tiles...dad worked for JSC back then. Those tiles are pretty amazing.

I keep imaging the Dutch hero in your avatar going around (in a very Monty Pythonish style) saying Zoing, Zoing, Zoing.

There is no good answer to the weight question. My ex had a weight issue, so I thought, oh, when I date the new GF (years later) the fact that she's skinny means this won't come up. I was half right...she never asks if something makes her look fat. Now I get, does this outift make me look skinny?

They always do seem to come up with something, dont they? In regards to this infamous situation, I find that looking her up and down as if I'm undressing her with my eyes, while smirking mysteriously and moving my eyebrows in a Groucho Marx manner gets me out of answering the question directly in most circumstances.

Now, if someone could tell me how to get past that really annoying "Whats wrong?" "Nothing" deal.......

It's the past tense of a term Southern plummers use.

The correct useage would be: "Hey Y'all, did we spacken that shower yet?"
