I know this is not the place to discuss WiTP but I had to share this tragedy: Day 1 Day Air attack on Derby , at 24,85 Japanese aircraft G4M1 Betty x 38 Ki-21 Sally x 197 Ki-46-II Dinah x 5 Allied aircraft F4F-4 Wildcat x 13 CW-21B Demon x 11 Brewster 339D x 13 Kittyhawk I x 21 P-39D Airacobra x 7 Japanese aircraft losses G4M1 Betty: 20 destroyed Ki-21 Sally: 101 destroyed G3M Nell: 2 destroyed Allied aircraft losses F4F-4 Wildcat: 1 destroyed, 11 damaged CW-21B Demon: 2 destroyed, 7 damaged Brewster 339D: 13 damaged Kittyhawk I: 1 destroyed, 20 damaged P-39D Airacobra: 2 destroyed, 4 damaged B-25C Mitchell: 1 destroyed Beaufort V-IX: 6 destroyed Hudson I: 3 destroyed Beaufighter VIF: 1 destroyed Martin 139: 1 destroyed Wellington III: 2 destroyed Allied ground losses: 28 casualties reported Airbase hits 6 Airbase supply hits 2 Runway hits 42 Day 2 Day Air attack on Derby , at 24,85 Japanese aircraft G4M1 Betty x 26 Ki-21 Sally x 81 Ki-46-II Dinah x 6 Allied aircraft F4F-4 Wildcat x 10 CW-21B Demon x 8 Brewster 339D x 8 Kittyhawk I x 18 P-39D Airacobra x 5 Japanese aircraft losses G4M1 Betty: 14 destroyed Ki-21 Sally: 30 destroyed, 17 damaged Ki-46-II Dinah: 1 destroyed Allied aircraft losses F4F-4 Wildcat: 6 damaged CW-21B Demon: 4 damaged Brewster 339D: 2 damaged Kittyhawk I: 1 destroyed, 6 damaged P-39D Airacobra: 1 damaged Hudson I: 2 destroyed Wellington III: 1 destroyed Blenheim IV: 1 destroyed Airbase hits 2 Runway hits 10 The combat report makes it look like I am an idiot for sending in unescorted bombers. In reality 80 Zeros form Keopang were supposed to escort the strike but they could not locate their target. This is annoying because: 1. They flew from the same base as the bombers 2. They were at normal range and the bombers were at extended range 3. They had escorted strikes there about 10-15 times before 4. Derby has been reconed every day for the last 2 months 5. They had 300 freakin' bombers to follow The kicker was that the next day the bombers flew agin (unescorted) and then I get a message that air missions were canceld due to bad weather. I guess just the Zeros didn't want to get wet. Total losses for the 2 days was 150 Sallys and 30 Betties. If the Zeros had flown they would have cut through the lousy fighters and this would have been a great day for me.
