Yeah, I miss those days, Dixie. My favorite rank was SGT. Just enough responsibility that someone would tell you what to do, then you grab your guys and go do it. Usually, there was no one around to bother you.

Actually, I'm pretty laid back most of the time. It's just when someone starts taking advantage of the system like this when I get really pissed off.

I wouldn't know about that yet. I'm only at the heady rank of SAC, I've got 3-4 months before I can even be considered for my next rank, which is really the same as the one I have now but for lots more money.

I think it's the same the world over for sgts, although a lot of the guys I worked for said that JT or Cpl was the best balance of rank and responsibilty and pay.

Almost 3, and I spent half of that so far training .  My 3 year point should coincide with 18 months in my post, which means an automatic promotion, as long as I have a few other odds and ends done.

How long do you have left?

Well, in theory I'm eligible for retirement in 18 months, but I've spent my whole career in the Guard, and most of it part time.  I wouldn't collect a retirement until age 60 (14 years from now).  I'm planning on retiring from work altogether at age 55, so I'll probably stay until then.  At that point, I'll decide whether or not to remain in the Guard part time.  If I do, I'd be a LTC by then and probably take home about $1000 a month for working 2 days a month.

It aint that nice if youre the Cpl in question. Youre not trusted with anything aside from being able to wipe your own nose...and you have the pleasure of catching it from all angles. Whoever came up with "360 degree" management is full'o'sh1t.

Do you plan to leave your computer in those times?

Oooh, goodies. Just saw an advert on the History Channel for "Building an Empire: Russia". I can just see the loads of horse manure now.

On second thought, I better not watch it. I might inadvertently damage the TV somehow.

It's not too bad for us, at least on my currnet squadron. We're all (allegedly) adults and capable and expected to be able to work on our own with minimal supervision, not like some places I can think of.

Uhh.... No. Did I think about that long enough?

Actually, I'm a runner and I can't wait to have the time to get back into a nice routine. The occasional marathon, but probably half-marathons will be the norm. They're long enough to be a challenge but don't kill you.

I'm guessing its slightly different in the combat arms. Techie guys are, by definition, adult, responsible individuals (everybody hold down those snickers if you can, please).

Nah. The hubris, nearsightedness, arrogance and outright stupidity of modern American society always has that effect on me.

Not sure about Bruce, but I have a feeling that History Channel holds the same degree of authority for T as Bugs Bunny does for the rest of us.
