Sorry if this has been talked about before. As I pour over the formums I see countless arguements reguarding carrier aircraft slots (If I understand this properly, the database has a finite number of slots for carrier capable aircraft. Also the CHS created several more hard coded slots).

The problem seems to me that planes that appear in real numbers in the later part of the war are neglected for early war accuracy.

IMHO the following slots are needed for carrier aircraft

Brewster Buffalo F2a-1 Upgrades to either Navy or Marine F4F-4
Wildcat F4F-3 Upgrades To F4F-4 Navy or coded to upgrage to Marine in Marine Squadrons
Wildcat F4F-4 (Marine Version) Upgrade to Corsair F4U-1a
Wildcat F4F-4 (Navy Version) Upgrade to F6F-3

Earlier Casablanca class CVE will be equipped with F4F-4 (Actually FM-1s -4's built by GM with 2 less MGs) which will squadron coded to upgrade to FM-2
Wildcat FM2 no upgrades as built and equiped for escort carriers

Ryan Fireball

Hellcat F6F-3 Fighter upgrades to F6F-5
Hellcat F6F-5 Fighter Bomber Upgrades to F8F-1
Bearcat F8F-1

Douglas SDB Upgrades to Helldiver
Helldiver SB2C-1 Divebomber Upgrades to SB2C-3
Helldiver SB2C-3 Divebomber

Douglas Devastator Upgrades to Avenger TBF-1
Avenger TBF-1 Torpedo Bomber Upgrades to Avenger TBM-3
Avenger TBM-3 Torpedo Bomber

Corsair F4U-1A Fighter Upgrades to 1D
Corsair F4U-1D Fighter Bomber Upgrades to 4
Corsair F4U-4 Fighter Bomber

Night Figther Hellcat
Night Bomber Avenger

This is 20 models to fill carrier slots

From this required base all other planes need to be fitted in. If slots don't exist in the carrier capable part of the program, start by limiting the British.
Just have British built planes first (Fulmar, Firefire, Seafire, Albacore, Barracuda, etc) and then upgrade grade them to American variants (ie Avenger TBF-1 instead of Avenger Mk1/2). Sorry if the nifty art is lost at times.

This should free up the slots if enough don't exist.
I find it funny that huge arguements go around reguarding 3 squadrons of Buffalo's (2 Marine and 1 Navy) and have slots for the exact types and planes that show up in the hundreds and thousands later are neglected.

Is it possible to get Midway carriers?

I know stats exist but do they ever come in?

If so, the F7F Tigercat is needed also.

You need to check out the CHS mod.
What you want is already there.

Actually they are not there.

No muliple f6f types or Helldiver types

Also I forgot the Vindicator Dive Bomber

With the Tigercat I listed earlier that leaves 22 aircraft out of 30 slots (if I counted right)

Can the Brits be done in 8 slots?

Well there are only soo many naval slots available.
To fill out entire models many others would be forfeit.

Maybe in WITPII.

Or ask Matrixgames if there can included in the next patch more aircraft slots for carrierplanes.

Actually CHS has 2 versions of the F6F, (one being the nightfighter).

Andrew added all three Midways to the next CHS release.
And the F7F is already there - but not a carrier plane. However,
you can fly it anyway I think - just with higher attrition. I have turned it into a real carrier plane in my current plane review.

You are right - we always give priority to early war accuracy - because most games never get to the late war period - for lots of reasons. And the British versions of American planes are (in my mod) different - for example they get 3 inch rockets (a British weapon) - cruise at different speeds and get different ranges as a result (due to real historical practice - I don't make this up). But whatever trade offs are made - it is always a judgement call. It can be done other ways.

I understand your concerns... i agonized quite a bit over what to include and what to axe.

On the F6f3/5 i decided not to include two day fighter models as they were extremely close in abilities and if you upgrade a group the pilots will all lose a fair amount of ability. Who would upgrade to a plane with the same stats and watch your pilots skills drop?

Mike

I have come to the same conclusion. But I did make a designation change - from F6F-5N to F6F-3N - for the night fighter. That way I feel honest in letting players have the night figher version sooner - when the 3N became available. So we do have two F6Fs - day and night - both variations of F6F-3. It is a very nice plane - and the most successful carrier fighter of all time measured in terms of aircraft kills.
