I want to give a big round of applause to the CoG design team for developing a strategic game in which nations actually persist. I've played the Total War series, Crusader Kings, and Europa Unversalis, and in all those games small (and even not so small) Kingdoms and countries evaporated in fairly short order. (For instance, last time I played Rome: Total War, the Gauls were gone by 220 BC.

Because of the surrender rules, even in a twenty-year period, none of the big seven vanished.
