Hi

Finally thought to buy the General's Edition, just for those Mega Campaings.

But what do you know, it seems that I cannot get the campaigns working. I tried to start the Watchtower campaign, but run into troubles when choosing Tulagi.
Error: Cannot load oob data appeared and the game crashed to the desktop.

After few attempts the game started and I was able to finish the first scenario, but when trying to move to the second one, the same error appeared and now I cannot get the game working anymore, no matter how many tries.

Any ideas what might be wrong? I applied the 8.3 patch and the 8.4 on top of that. Haven't really tried it without any patches, but it kind a sucks if I cannot get the game patched up.

make sure the megas are actually n the folder called "mega campaigns"
sometimes folders get nested and the like

Alby has a point. The loading process can be problematic. If you know how to use your file manager, check and see if there is only one MegaCam folder inside of your SPWAW folder.

I have seen instances where there is one Megacam INSIDE another Megacam. This will cause the problem.

I'm sorry you are having difficulty with it. Let us know if you get it to work.

Hi

Thanks for the replies. I looked at the folders and in the folder: Steel Panthers World At War General Edition there is a folder called: MegaCam. Under that folder there is folders for each of the Mega Campaigns and then *.CFG files for each of the separate campaigns.

So it seems that this is not the problem.

Does your problem occur only with the Tulagi option?

Do you have backed up OOB's from version 8.3?

If so, try replacing the files OOB75 and OOB83 with your version 8.3 files. It could be that modifications to the v8.4 files have made them incompatible with the mega campaign.

The OOB files are found in the main directory of SPWAW.
--------------------------

The problem occurs immediately when I choose Tulagi. I was able to play the first scenario when I chose the other island option, but then when advancing to the second scenario the game crashed to the desktop. Didn't try Red Beach.

I now installed the game again and didn't apply any patches and now everything works, so it seems that this crash has something to do with the two patches.

Haven't really tried Major's advice about the OBB files, but when the game gives the error, it starts to list a huge number of OOB files and as far as I can see, there is a way way more than two files which the game cannot find or load.

Now that I have gotten the Watchtower campaign progressing I don't really want to try Major's advice and apply the patch 8.3. I think I'll play Watchtower first and then try 8.3.

I will come back with this issue after that.

Glad that you have it running now. It should work well with 8.3. I am running it in that version without problem. But if you have it working in the version you are using now, there is no reason to upgrade. Watchtower was designed in version 5. Therefore it should run perfectly well in any version from v5.0 up to v8.3

The USMC OOB has been extensively edited for version 8.4 and beyond.

The reason the game listed all those 'unable to load' OOB's was because one of the weapons or units used in the mega campaign was deleted from the v8.4 OOB file. So the game tried to find that weapon/unit in one of the other OOB files, without success, obviously.

Well it seems that this error has decided to stop me from playing.

Started the LV campaign and was rather far into it, when that OOB error appeared again and now it seems that the whole saved file is corrupted to the degree that I cannot continue the campaign anymore.

Tried all tricks and even installed the game third time since buying it, but no use. Error keeps on persisting and that's it.

I must say that I'm rather disappointed to this concept, as it seems that it is not stable at all. If not this, then it kept on crashing constantly.

Well at least I supported Matrixgames with a 70 bucks.

Just surprised that these kind of problems haven't been really solved in the previous years as I don't seem to be the only one experiencing problems with this?
