I had a squad pinned down by a MG42...so...I sent a greyhound in to take care of it...I figured the .50 would send them running. The Greyhound got to around 5-6 hexes away...the MG42 got a kill with a side shot...It just kinda through me...and I was wondering if that happened to any of you?

Sometimes weird things happen.

I've

-killed T-34 with 81mm mortar direct hit to front hull
-killed BT-7 with bottom hit by Pz-IV's MG34
-killed BT-7 with rifle fire
-Killed FAI with Suomi SMG fire side hull hit

It has to be interpreted that something was open there and the bullets got inside.

I cannot recall ever having a M8 killed by a MG34 or 42. I especially can't recall having any light or med tank dropped by a Mortar round, but then, I've never had one direct fired on any of my tanks. I've always used infantry to destroy them after my arty has suppressed them enough.

I have destroyed some ACs before with MG and rifle fire; and some halftracks with HMGs. That was in v8.2.

i have seen just about everything in this game and thats why i love it.
darn near anything is possible but may not be probable if that makes since. ive been playin with albys mod latley and must say its plays pretty darn good. hey that mg 42 just tore your greyhound up. call it luck or call it an expert shooter . believe me in our nighty ip games we cuss each other out regularly about kills we feel were not justified only to be rewarded by our own lucky shots. i think it all evens out in the end.

Among other goofy things I've seen:

A Tiger killed by a Garand hit to the front hull
A King Tiger killed by a bottom hit with an 81mm mortar - indirect fire ( )
A King Tiger killed by an M4A1 Sheman from 10 hexes, front hull hit.
A Sherman killed by a Kar98 hit, front hull (ok, so this one is pretty standard .
A Sniper kill a Brummbaer, front hull hit.
King Tigers killed at over 20 hexes, front turret hit, by M4E8's.

Krec is right, its cool to be surprised now and again by the game.

Guys, one thing also
If you are using 8.3 oobs...alot of those "killer MGs" with penetration value they should'nt have, got left over form the 8.2 killer MG fiasco

I'm still playin 8.4 and agree that some of the stimulous in the game definately replicates if not duplicates the real luck of the draw, haphazard { HOLY COW I DIDN"T THINK THAT COULD HAPPEN } moments of conflict. MY pucker factor goes up most right now with german AIR attacks wrought against me playing as the russians their high exp. and accuracy are making me chew all my fingernails off!!RT

Ah, I LOVE enemy air power. The first battle I fought in 8.4 was an amphibious assault; US Army vs Vichy French. I used a heavy naval bombardment (all my support points save for a company of engineers) and thus the only casualties I really had were the two tanks and 1 rifle platoon lost due to their Hurricane IIcs pounding them into the sea. Not to mention that one AAR report I posted that ended with Vichy French planes blowing my troops to hell and back.

If armor has its' hatches open and take a hit, I appreciate that the armor has a chance to be destroyed. I do not however think a basic infantry rifle should be able to take out any armor on a front hull hit.
I have however posted in past that standard U.S. rounds issued to M1's and BAR's were AP..They are not included in the game, for the sake of "balance".
No intention of reproducing the proof/stats for this statement, but you can do a search of past postings and will find the info, (only for histories' sake.....)
An MG42 knocking out an M8...Hmmm.......It's possible..Clumsy crew may have had vision ports open..
One round going inside will bounce around till it hits something soft to absorb it, (or shells.)

The AP rounds on small arms are not excluded for 'balance', but because the game engine allows them to disable the treads of tanks way too easily. This was exactly what happened in 8.0 with the tank killing MG's. Thats why the 8.1 patch was rushed out so fast.

"Enhanced SPWaW"? That's kinda cool, but it sounds like some of the junk-mail I get LOL: "enhance your SPWaW overnight!", or "add inches to your tube artillery!".

I guess I better be careful, or Wild Bill will have me running Currahee while reciting "this is my rifle, and THIS is my gun" over & over.

OK, changing my tune momentarily, I DO get a kick out of a 50-cal blowing up a bunker once in awhile.

However, even in 8.403, I still get a Stuart occasionally disabled by a Japanese MG, or destroyed by one of those infamous 50mm "knee mortars". I suppose that's a fair tradeoff.

The Goblin Construction/Destruction Company is waiting for your call: "We Can Put It Up, and We Can Tear It Down". (sometimes on the same job, just like good engineers...ahem)

Damn. I just now actually bothered to apply for a CC; it'll be awhile before it'll be here. Oh well; I'll wait for the M3 Stuart that a friend's dad owns to come up for sale then.

Just play the game and enjoy it. So what about minor like lucky shots. They also happen in reality. Few games have this included in them so rather than complain, enjoy.
