Just saw " the movie that shall not be named" , WHAT A LOAD OF DUDU.

Some observations:

Modern ships in the harbour.

AC (VALL??) attacking a car in the street, I counted at least about 8 bomb impacts. The Japs attack PH and spend
AT LEAST 8 250KG bombs on a single car

VALL attacking AF from less then 50 feet , sure attack PH and risk your bomb not detonating due to insufficient arming time

ZERO's firing their 20MM wing guns like they have unlimited ammo (only had 60 or so rouns per gun)

P40 firing at least 10 seconds from it's 50 calls, they had what? 5 seconds totall firing time??

p40's armed within 5 minutes, took at least 20 minutes to load all 6 50 calls

Japanes areal topedo's RETAINED their shallow water attack wooded tail end after hitting the water, IRL they broke of...

kates had torps slung under fuselage at a 10 degree angle downward, if the wanted the torps to stay at the surface, they would have used 0 degree.

P40's out turning zero's in a low altitude, low speed DOGFIGHT

All us pilots knew what a zero was, IRL they did not now....

7.92 mm bullets going into water and killing people at least 10 feet down and at a 45 degree angle, mythbusters showed us that the bullet explodes after 2 feet of water.

250 KG bombs actually DAMAGING a BB, we al know that these pinpong balls just bounce of

torpedo armed kates attacking an AF....

I could continue....

that movie sucks

that was a crazy episode. I never would've thought a .50 cal would break up like that. Makes that seen in Saving Private Ryan also untrue (and about 8 other movies)

Maybe not - it depends on the ammo. In MB, they used a .50cal, but maybe not AP ammo.

The only thing about this move that has any merit is, as noted above:

Kate Beckinsale:

So, you want realism? Go play WitP.

Despite the fact that I did not enjoy this film either, I think you are being far too harsh on it. Where would they get 1941 vintage ships, for example?

They had limited technical expertise and relied on air show pilots to reproduce aerial combat scenes. Who knows what the real show looked like?

The place where this film fails totally for me is as a drama. The people are wooden, the action is bland and secondary to the Micheneresque attempt at "historical fiction," the situations are silly, and the whole thing is geared toward being a big screen version of a cheap TV show that has no idea what the historical events it is trying to dramatize were.

And Kate Beckinsale is a dogfight in her own right (although I did like her work to some extent as Emma Woodhouse in the 1996 A&E production of Jane Austen's "Emma"). I haven't seen her do anything since that I was interested in at all (including this photo, for which you should have been instantly banned, Brady, you naughty boy).

Well they did not show at what speed it will stop "exploding", They showed that it will explode just out of the gun but what will it do after 100m 300m 500m and so on

Well, they actually do listen to fans and suggestions. If you are interested, I have the URL of the show's discussion board. You could pose that question there and they just might respond. I think the chances of them revisiting it on the show are very low, they just did so recently by firing several weapons while they were submerged. The bullets still didn't travel very far and they discovered that it is a really really bad idea to fire a shotgun underwater.

Don't forget "sling bombing". That's a problem in all the PH movies. Apparently Hollywood can't grasp the idea of "dive" bombing. TORA, TORA, TORA screwed that up as well...

Apparently, the graphics geniuses for WitP couldn't grasp it, either, judging from those silly Zeros flying over airborne Energizer batteries fitted with "pump it up with water missile" tail assemblies.

Oh, well. I still can't get past the collapsing tower of Barad Dur in Pearl Harbor, either.

Please help me. I cannot load this game without, after Frankie de Laino intones "Yesterday," clicking to move on to the next screen while murmuring, "All my troubles seemed so far away...."

Completely right about the movie sucking.

But the P-40B has a firing time of 22 seconds (250 Rounds) with the nose .50's, 17 seconds (300 rounds) with the left wing .30's, and 14 seconds (240 rounds) with the right wing .30's.

Just correcting a little P-40B injustice.

It's a shame that this board is so international, would like to sit down with you guys, have a beer and watch the movie. Every scene would be paused and we would have a go and have a generall laugh about the "wrongness" of every scene

That's actually a really good question, I've seen the same kind of thing on Spitfire Vb's, Hurricane IIb's and the P-40E. I'm guessing there is something in the wing like a Pitot Tube that reduces availible space.

Edit: After thinking about it, I don't think a pitot tube requires enough space to actually reduce ammo load outs. Anyone else have any ideas about what's in the wing to reduce ammunition load outs like that?

You missed one that every one misses.

She is pregnant in late December, but still is not showing during the Doolittle Raid. She should be about four months.

The movie bites. Still ain’t as bad as Windtalkers.

Only saw windtalkers once, so can not really comment on the historicall accuracy of that movie...

Think they're about equally bad, but more people have seen the first one, so there's a higher Seen-It to Hate-It ratio.

Guys

You've got to learn to enjoy!

It's a movie, not a dcumentary. It's supposed to entertain not to teach

And I'm telling you, I really enjoy Kate B.

Take it easy.

Come on this movie was funny as Willie mentioned Vals bombing cars , P-40's outmanuvering the Zeros and making them crash in the Air i remeber a Really fun to wat series named "4 Tankers and Dog" about a polish T-34 crew in the Eastern front... during the series they Killed more Tigers then the Germans probably produced but the series was fun to watch even now after like nearly 20 years after i saw it for the first time in the TV... Remeber this PH movie wasen't made for people like us who now "what and how" but to people who can bearly tell de Difference betwen the Zero and P-40

Any way i really liked the Series "Band of Brothers" i would want that something like this series would be made about Warsaw Uprising and show in the US so the people would not think that the only uprising in Warsaw was the small Ghetto uprising in 1943...

Any Way Willie less crappy films more WITP

Don't forget the romantic scene where 2 people were able to fit into the cockpit of a P-40.

hey, apparently this happened all the time - witness "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow". Of course, according to that movie, no only did the P-40 have 2 seats, but could hit the water at 300 mph and then proceed along as a submarine!!

Maybe not QUITE as stupid as we like to think. Sure, it was stolen from Star Wars, but George Lucas admitted he took/modelled most of his X-wing, TIE, etc. fighter maneuvers from WW2 fighter footage.

But still, in "TMTSNBN" it was pretty stupid...
