Ok I am currently dling bodhi's utility and was wondering what use you get out of it, and how to use it exactly? Just started playing yesterday so I am wondering how it will benefit me. Thanks.

It could be really sueful, I do use it to an extent, but the fact that it is a separate programme means that i have to rememeber to load it, then save to it, then open it... and frequently forget. Its 90% of what WITP actually is missing in a proper user interface.

The best proabable aspect of it is the ability to add notes to hexes to remind you what you are doing or what you are planning for there - but again, you have to have a lot more discipline than I have.

The latest version was being improved by Bodhi and the results would hev been very good, but he kinda lost interest. I do hope that aspects of the work could be incorporated into WITP at soem stage.... the flow would be better with just the one programme to use.

Interesting. So I actually have to open it and WitP at the same time then? And then save to it? Still a little fuzzy on how to use it.....Seems cool though, I did mess with it a bit while I was at home for lunch.

Bohdi's utility is extremely useful. It is a seperate program and all it does is to read to combat, operation and intel text files and presents this data in a much more useful form.

To use it you need to run the combat replay to create the files, open Bohdi's utility and it will read the appropriate files, the information for which can then be displayed on the witp map.

It's real use is to keep track of the intel and op reports. It uses a copy of the witp map and displays all the data on there. It can remember all your intel and op reports so if necessary you can troll back several months to see what was at a hex, where is moved to, etc.

It also has a host of other functions; including base info, indication of your TF's spotted by the enemy, indication of plane operating radii, distance between bases and path plotting, individual ship tracking, the ability to anote the map with notes, to name just some.

When an intel report says Unit xyz located at hex 23,68 it can be a pain tracking down the hex in the game. In the utility you click on the report and it shows you the hex in the map. It also indicates any adjacent hexes which have had intel or op reports associated with them in the last couple of weeks.

I find it invaluable. If it didn't exist I would have to write it.

The best use of Bodi's Util is the fact that it compiles the sigint reports. Instead of a bunch of single glimpes "18022 men are based at Truk...", it will mark the locations of all sigint reports on a map. You can pick a location on the map, and it gives you all the reports for that location. Scroll around the map, and check your bases, so that you -don't- find a report saying "Imp Guards Div is planning to attack..." (in case you missed it in the individual report). Also, all those "radio transmissions detected at location xx,yy" get displayed on the map. It actually gives you a fair estimate of convoy routes (but be warned that many of the sigint reports are crap anyway, and might well be locations of your own stuff).

But the main thing is that it compiles stuff over time. You might make a judgement call which reports are garbage (like radio transmissions at Vancouver), but you'd have to do that for for the individual reports anyway.

Definately worth getting, esp if you've got a PBEM game going.

For those of you who want to use Bodhi's Utility but keep forgetting to start it, you can create a shortcut on your desktop that will start both WiTP and the Utility.

1) Create individual shortcuts on your desktop for WiTP and Bodhi's Utility. Make sure there are no spaces in their names. (Example: "WITPUtility" and "WarinthePacific")

2) Right-click on your desktop, select "New", "Text file". Name the file whatever you want, as long as you give it a .bat suffix. (Example: "WITP.bat")

3) Right-click on the new file and select "Edit". Use Notepad and add to the blank file two lines: "start <Utility shortcut name>" and "start <WITP shortcut name>". (Example:
start WITPUtility
start WarinthePacific)

4) Save and exit. Now if you double click on that file, it will start both programs for you using the shortcuts. If you are using any of the WiTP.exe switches (-w, deep color, etc.) just include those in the shortcut and they will run when you use the .bat file.

Wayne,

Need help with that sig? It looks like you're uploading it every time (not as sig). Is a sig your intent? Much easier way of doing it...
