Hi!

Well, I've done my first movie and it won't get an oscar... but it was definately fun to do.

The main problem is coping/pasting such that it all is the same size and shows the same place.

Well anyway, turn out the lights and let's watch Lava get his first Astounding Victory playing "France 40."

Here's the overview... I didn't mess to much with the Maginot Line as you can see, and it was only after I patched my game that I was able to penetrate Paris. So if you haven't patched.. do so because it makes a big difference. Roll'em Charles:

Now here is the opening 3 moves. The fall of Brussles:

To my surprise I took Brussels on turn 3. Just "pinged" past the enemy and let the infantry do the dirty work. Then it was just trying to exploit and push to Paris.

Overall the "gifanimator" is pretty easy to work with and the instructions given by Larry worked a charm.

Very Kewl.

Hi!

The beta patch. It makes a big difference for the Germans with close air support.

Well...

I've played the games for years when it first came out. Last few years I've only messed about editing/"trying" to create scenarios.

The AI is quite a bit better now. Not so easy to trap folks in pockets like it used to be. Also, like I say, the patch makes a BIG difference when it comes to close air support and I would have never made it to Paris without it. In the earlier editions I blew my way into Paris but Elmer makes thinks a lot harder.

So if you're new to the game I'd recommend toning down the AI to moderate until you get the hang of it (the default is the most difficult "strong").

Well, actually I am working on something for the new dudes in town and I think I might be able to fit that in there. We'll see...

Hey you guys I put the GIFanimator instructions in Okimaw and MrBendy's AAR:

http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=1171391&mpage=1&key=&#1171451

just in case you want to learn how to use the GIFanimator to make movies.

Using GIFanimator you can put movies together like this one ( the first nine turns of my FitE game ):

Hi!

Nice video Larry!

What amazes me is that I've never seen this feature in any other game, nor anyone use the gifanimator to illustrate their gaming experience or a company promote their products with it.

For example... now when I see a game I'm interested in I can say (as an example)... "Hey Frank, how about a small movie from Guns of August?"

This is really an excellent (and easy to use) tool with loads of potential for promoting our hobby.

The tool should also help a lot with creating scenarios for Elmer. Before a designer would have to watch the PO play itself to see what was happening. Very slow and boring. Now you can just let it play itself in the background using uber-fast mode and just look at the turn-by-turn photos when it is finished.

I have it also. I don't know where Larry got it. Okimaw, an PBEM opponent of Larry sent it to me. Maybe it's from microsoft. When i open it the name 'Microsoft Gif Animator' appears in the upper bar of the window. Hm, i will submit it to the SZO download section.

Yes, thanks Larry, i was not sure wether i should submit it or not, because it's you who made it poular...

Besides that, for you newbies it's worth checking out the SZO forums for toaw (former WFHQ). A site and community that kept the game alive during the dark years and where a couple of beta testers for toaw3 have been recruited. You can find articles, AARs, answers to your questions, a ladder system and PBEM opponents, downloads etc. Currently a TOAW3 newbie workshop is under construction which will most probably start at July, 8th.

No problemo. I thought I might as well upload it since I included some GIFanimator instructions with the package you can download. The instructions are a picture showing what the buttons are for, what they do, some values to use in the edit windows, stuff like that. I wish I had instructions when I was learning how to use GIFanimator. I don't remember where I got it but I do remember it was free and advertised as such.

Well...

Thankfully, with a good community, stuff like this can be learned easily.

The real beauty of the net.
