In the mean time, it is recommended that further posts to this thread be on a BEST BEHAVIOR basis, else an ertwihile innocent be caught up in the riot suppression activities!

....

"riot suppression acitivities" ....batons and rubber bullets..form your line here.

The most interesting thing I have read here is that the Japanese had a plywood shortage. I can see Molybdenum, Polonium, Aluminum..even petroleum..but plywood? Were they going to include Oregon in the greater co-prosperity sphere and bring in a bunch of Koreans to work the sawmills?

I would say the two great lessons of the Pacific War were (some not learned):

1) Never fight a land war in Asia
2) Don't start a war without a strategic plywood reserve

I've read in one of the NTMs that the problem with plywood was that they were unable to produce sufficient quantities of the glue required to make it and that they had only 3 factories in Japan dedicated to making it.

And the glue shortage could be attributed to a depleted "strategic horse reserve"...probably because the poor beasts were killed in the China campaign.

...but hey I was called a dirthole dweller right after I gave voice to my disagreement, some six months ago.

Well man, i've been to Budapest in 2001 and can say that it's in no way a dirthole. Very beautiful city inhabited by many nice people.

I usually don't respond to posts that claim that Canada is a frozen wasteland, where people ski to grocery store to buy some ammo to fend off marauding grizzly bears.

Yea. and it's not a racism. It's a discrimination based on the country of origin (that's how they say here in the frozen wasteland). LOL.

I knew that you all didn't ski to the store. I figured in this modern world, you would be using snowmobiles!!!

On review, it's interesting that I find myself occupying one of Chez' earlier positions on the matter, after he abandoned (?or did he?) that position.

Chez said:

These small wooden fins provided extremely little additional buoyancy. It was the flow of the water over the angled fins that brought the torp back towards the surface faster than it normally could.

And after thrashing it all out. I think that makes alot of sense. FWIW at this point.

The real point is that Japanese bombing and torpedo accuracy is not all it was cracked up to be - in fact it was downright ...human

You generally run out of that which you use the most in your war machine.

Thank you. Although the nice people have recently vanished somehow, but to quote a local saying : "We are not better than others, but not worse either!".

Well there are some people who think that "XYZ-land XYZ-land über alles!" Replace XYZ-land with any country and for them the rest of the world is just a ****ty place inhabited by morons and idiots .
