I've made some queries where I can actually make trades and edit Free Agents to my league but I need to import the tables to make the changes. I tried linking tables from the league .mdb file and the maindata file but I can't edit any info.

Is there a way to make them editable without importing the tables

you should be able to link the to the tables and edit. i've done it. i'm using Access 2002.
how are you linking?
here's how i do it:
1) under objects and i make sure i have tables selected.
2) right click in any open area of the tables area.
3) select Link Tables
4) find the mdb file and select it.
5) a listbox will appear with all the tables that are in the mdb you selected.
6) pick the tables you want or (you can select all of them)
7) press OK.

that's it. you should be able to edit any of the tables you selected.
let me know if that doesn't work.
ps. also if you are using queries to edit data and not editing the tables directly, not all querie types will let you edit the data. i forget off hand which ones. it could be you need to make sure your queries are of the right type.. i.e. if i remember correctly i think you can't edit if the querie is a cross-tab type querie.

Yeah the problem lies in the queries
I was using design view queries but I just tried a cross tab querie and still can't edit

I imported my tables the same way you described

I noticed that it's queries that include both Maindata.mdb and the league mdb that are not editable

for Free agents i include only the position abretiation which is located in maindata.mdb so it doesn't let edit them.

If I remove the table then it lets me edit stuff

mmm.. not sure if i'm following you exactly, but maybe in design view you need to link the fields your working with...from the maindata table to the league file... i.e. link the position id in the maindata with the position id in the league file.

I meant to say I was using select queries.

I had linked the tables in design view

i'm not sure whats going on, but i've had this problem too in the past and i'm curious what the issue could be. when i get some time i'll see if i can figure that out.

You can't edit select queries using 2 different MDB files. Possible work arounds are to import the position table to the league data file and use it from there or to link all the tables you need in a 3rd MDB file and do your work from there.

OK. I reread your original question and it finally sunk in.

To answer you original question: There is no way (outside of SQL) to modify data from a select query from two different databases. You need to get the data in the same database. (i.e. Import the LoolupPosition table into your database.)

To import follow the instructions that jcd38 provided except choose Import instead of Link.

OR else maybe I'm still confused on you question. If I'm not close to answering you question let me know. If you want to send me a zip file I would be happy to look at it.
