Sounds like these guys would understand that old quip (from the Napoleonic Wars IIRC) about "why did we have to march so fast only to get shot at when we get there".

It is indeed the body of the odoriferous (and hirsute)Khaled Sheik Y'urbouti Muhammed right before the CIA gave him his sponge bath.

Ad Hoc Editor's Note: The Egyptian Girl suggested we tell the reader that the "Kh" sound (as in Khaled) sounds kinda like a furball being coughed up.

P.S. The Editor-in-Chief position is still open. We added a company-supplied Kia SUV to the package.

Sgt. Bonebreak: <sitting atop a Bren Carrier with a large aerial, headset in place> Sir, it's the Colonel, sir. He asks we hurry up, sir. He says that the boys in the 2nd Infantry need us. He wants you to know the Royal Scots have been almost overrun.

Lt. Uppington-Smythe: <looks annoyed> Please inform the Colonel we've a beautiful Triceratops cranium here. I can't rush it.

Sgt. Bonebreak: <speaks into the radio> Sir, the Lt. wishes to report that he has found a Triceratops cranium and it can't be rushed, sir, Over. <nods as a message comes back immediately over the set> Sir, the Colonel suggest you bugger the Triceratops. He said that is a direct order.

Lt. Uppington-Smythe: Are you sure he said "bugger"?

Sgt. Bonebreak:Ooh, yes sir. He said bugger all right...direct order, sir.

Lt. Uppington-Smythe: Oh, bloody Hell! The indignities of this war are like to kill me. <shouts to soldiers working on the dozer> YOU THERE! COME OVER HERE AND HELP ME EXCAVATE THIS TRICERATOPS PELVIS.

The skies clear over Northern Burma and 10th Air Force and 224 Grp RAF take good advange of it, pounding the Japanese 15th and 18th Divisions and the 14th Tank Regt. After 2 days of shock attack, the enemy rests.

I'm just waiting for the quip Mandrake comes up with when the 7th finally arrives with 45% disruption.

It's all the Plaster of Paris (tm) casts of dinosaur bones that they are totin' around.

USN daily report:
SS Blackfish reports sinking a freighter of 6000 tons in a surface engagement off Lingayen Gulf today.
SS 28 did not make contact with packmate Pickerel off Simpson Harbor, New Britain tonight; presumed sunk by one of the numerous search aircraft that have been reported there.
No other notable sightings elsewhere in the Pacific.

China:
For the 2nd day running, Chinese bombers struck at the airdromes around Chengting; ground damage was light, but escorting P40's of the 23rd FG have accounted for some 20 enemy fighters for less than 10 losses of their own. The fighter types encountered are some of the newer Tony and Tojo planes.

3 Nationalist Corps are facing a Jap Division (21st) SW of Yunan; airstrikes are working on the frontline while the troops gather their breath and bullets.

Home front:

Mark this day on your calendar; USS Idaho docked at Mare Island today. USS Maryland is reporting that she is seaworthy and is moving to the #10 pier for final fitting out over the next 2 weeks. Idaho will be moving to the drydock ASAP where underwaterline repairs will begin. Other ships are in varying states of repair right now; with all 4 WC ports using their full repair capacity nearly every day.

A commendation for the Pearl Harbor repair crews is in order. Wasp is now equipped with the new AAA weapons; the yard boss believes that she will be ready in 7-10 days, when it will support AKRON.

Finally, here's a shot of the SF Navy Yard 1st shift supervisor. His brother, newly enlisted in the 2nd MarID was on hand for the arrival of Idaho. His comment...."Shazzzam!!"

Uparmoured Grant

A British 7th Armoured Brigade Grant emerges from the Burmese jungle in October of 1942. At the time they were experimenting with a number of materials to limit penetration of the front glacis armour.

BTW..what is wrong with this picture?

You mean apart from the bed rolls that have been pasted onto the picture?

And the fact that the 37mm gun appears to be missing?

And the fact that the tank is American, yet is sporting the Desert Rat?

Bed rolls??? I will have you know some Allosaurus gave his all to make those "rolls".

Yes. The 37 mm had to be removed. The extra weight from the plaster of Paris was putting too mcuh strain on the front suspension members.

Yes, the stripe on the cupola and the paint scheme look American. That was a contract mix-up with M&M Paint and Body Division.

There is something else. More subtle..you are close.

Yes...good point. Here is a close-up. The chap looks vaguely familiar.

Something else anachronistic too.

You don't remember Michael Dukakis riding around in a tank (looking silly) as a electioneering stunt? Probably cost him 1,000,000 votes on election day...
