Another vintage aircraft is lost. Local news is reporting a Hawker Hunter crashed into 3 homes during an airshow in Hillsboro, Oregon just 45 minutes ago. No word on ground casualties or of the pilot as yet. Hopefully there won't be any.

Witnesses said it appeared to experience an engine problem and pitched nose up, stalled and crashed.

Latest news is that the plane had just taken off for its return flight to California and suffered some type of engine malfunction and the pilot was trying to get back to the airport. Unfortunately he ran out of airspeed and altitude. From the video it looks like he was trying to keep it away from the houses but wasn't able to. He stayed with the plane and was killed. No one was hurt on the ground.

A tragic loss, I've always had a thing for the Hunter and it was one of the first model kits I built on my own as a kid way, way back when!

Just saw the video of an RAAF F-111 making a belly landing after one of it main gear wheels fell off. Pilot did an outstanding job of setting it down. Unfortunately, now the RAAF has grounded all 26 of their F-111s. If you haven't seen it, you can view it at www.video.ap.org, its in the 'world' section.

I asume it had an Ejector seat?

So, He either staryed to make shure the plane did as little damage as posable-

Or, He the owner/piolet of the plane did not keep it in working condation?

The FAA does not allow civil jets to have ejection seats.

Heh. Reminds me of an old story. A Royal Danish Air Force Hunter once developed engine trouble whilst on approach to its base. Everything conked out: engine, electricals, hydraulics... All of it.

The pilot ejected, and then the plane proceeded to glide perfectly straight in to do a belly landing on the runway. It was repaired and returned to service.

If this had happened in an F-16, it would have fallen out of the sky like a dropped brick, but not the Hunter. Beautiful airplane.
