Just wondering about something. Looking at the puresim.xml it appears that historical players are brought into the game using their actual ratings for offensive production. I was wondering what happens when I bring in players from multiple eras, do they get normalized in any fashion or is Cobb a .366 hitter with little home run power, Ruth a .342 hitter with great power and Mantle a .297 hitter with power. And would all the pitchers from the Deadball era be the stars.....

If this is how the game works that is fine but I was wondering.

Regards,

Steve

In my various fantasy leagues, Cobb is always brought into the future as a fantastic hitter but with only 1 or 2 homeruns a season.

That is what I suspected because of the way the xml is setup for historical players.

Thanks

Correct, there is no normalization in this case.

I'd like to do that for PS 2008. What do you guys think, would you like it to work like it currently does, or would you like to see normalization?

An option for both will be great for 2008

Actually it would probably be a better idea to leave this to the mod creators and let you develop the game to a higher level of excellence. I would just like the ability to switch the lahmans database. Simply by allowing multiple lahman databases to be use. I have collected the DAVENPORT TRANSLATIONS of every player that has played in the Major Leagues and have started to get this into a database (very time consuming) but once this is done I can get it into Lahman Format. The normalization process I would use on these would not be a direct copy from the DT but uses the data as a basis for a historical normalization. I also have a formula to NORMALIZE the fielding stats based on the data from RETROSHEET. With these combined I can create a database that is normalized with fielding as well as the pitching and offensive production. I actually started normalizing players in the mid 1980's but thought I was not doing it correctly because of the similarity in stats with players from the deadball era.... then I look at DT results and mine were very similar to his....wish I would have stuck with the process.....

Shaun, if you could open the game up to allow for multiple databases, I would be interested in creating this NORMALIZED database to be used in the NEXT version of PURESIM. Imagine the following: Random Debut databases, Japanese League databases, fictional world databases..... It would probably require an XML entry pointing to the DATABASE to use for the association. This would really be awesome....

Just some ideas on helping make this great game better. I honestly believe that this game can move up to fill the gap of the people that enjoy OOTP 6.5 but really don't care for OOTP 2006. I moved over here because of these issues but feel that while the game is good, it can be a LOT BETTER!!! And with OOTP not doing anything with OOTP 6.5 it is a lame duck program and you will have influx of players wanting a game with out the complexities and depth of the new OOTP game. Sometimes simpler is BETTER....
