Into the eleventh season now, my league has had 8 no hitters. The latest two being in the most recent month, May, 1960.

First, on May 6, 32yo veteran Floyd Munsell threw a near perfect game, the only base runner reaching on an error in the first inning. Floyd started an impressive streak with a shutout on April 28, the first of four shoutouts in a six game stretch, including the no-no. His record thus far? 4-4 for the season, 87-67 career.

Nine days after Floyd's gem, 22yo John Packer, in his 21st big league start, pitched another no-no. John started the month of May with a shutout, as well as pitching an opening day shutout giving him three for the year thus far. John's record for the year is 7-3 with a 12-7 career mark.

Munsell finished the year with 6 shutouts and a 12-8 record while Packer had 5 and a 13-8 record.

1960 turned out to be quite a remarkable year for young hurlers. In addition to Packer check these guys out:

Donald Causey, 25 years old, won the Emerald League Best Rookie Pitcher award with a 20-6, 2.63 record, just losing out to 24 yo Jeremy Nance, (20-8, 2.32) for the Best Pitcher Award.

James Tingley, 27, won the Diamond League BRP with an 18-11, 3.39 performance, again narrowly losing out to 26 yo Victor Chaffins (18-6, 3.25) for Best Pitcher.

Noah Torres, (13-10, 2.10) 27, who set the single game strikeout record of 14 two years ago as a rookie, punched out 249 batters in 244 innings to shatter the previous single season strikeout mark of 217, set just last season by Nance.

Billy Brooks, 27 yo in his first full season, went 19-5 with an association leading 2.05 ERA, yet won no awards.

Edit: mispelled Tingley's name.

The Fort Wayne Twisters, who went 74-70 in the regular season, snuck by the Charlotte Kingsmen (89-55) 4 games to three in the Diamond League championship, then went on to upset the heavily favored Rochester Blue Sox, who had set a regular season record for victories by going 97-47 on their way to the Emerald League Championship, in a 7 game World Series. The Akron Aeros (74-70) were runners up to the Blue Sox.

3.74 for 1960, 3.66 for '59. I am still using 1.24.

1963: Nance pitched a second no-hitter facing 27 batters, one walk, retired caught stealing. He also scored the only run.

A pitcher named John Maltby managed a shutout while giving up 11 hits, one double, all the rest singles, and two walks, and his defense made 2 errors while turning only one DP.

Oh, and Noah Torres broke his own single game record by striking out 17 in the first game of the LCS.
