This is a query for all of the map editing experts, any advice or primers for a newbie, who wants to give map editing a try? I know WitP has certain fixed limitations in terms of map size. I would be curious and would appreciate any tips on getting started.

There are two different things involved:

map art (done in sections called panels)

pwhex.dat file

The latter defines what is in a hex in terms of terrain type and communcations (roads etc).

It also defines the hex side type.

You can ask Cobra for a pwhex editor - I think his son has written one. Otherwise, like me, you must do pwhex by hand
- a tedious thing.

For art - you are on your own. Draw or image whatever you like. Just understand the scale is 60 statute miles per hex
and you must use our projection - or change where the location file puts things.

By "our projection" I mean Andrew Brown's Extended Map - the only one in the world as far as I am concerned.
But you could use the original WITP map projection - and that is the same as Andrew Brown's normal map.
The RHS map is the same as Andrew Brown's Extended Map - projection wise.

Note you can add a city/location to any map just by programming the location file - no art - nor pwhex programming required.

Thank you el cid again. When I get some spare time, I will give it a try.
