As I recall, the engine manufacturer's descriptors can't be changed on the industry screen.

Cid has used lots of different engines - many by the same manufacturer - but the game only allows you to display the original text.

"the game only allows you to display the original text." Correct, you would need to use a editor on the executable to change the names of the engines. Even that has limitations of space allowed. Not a viable or recommended option for most players. Besides you still have the main issue of slot limitation, only a small percentage of engines can be represented.

I worked on this long ago - and you will find a thread dedicated to it.
Each engine is in fact the most common engine in a series of related power. Thus the weakest engines are Mitsubishi (Ha-1). Anywhere the full device name is used, it will appear that way. But some reports only show the Manufacturer's name - they are hard coded. This reminds me - we should publish the list of engine names and associated power ranges - which is posted on the forum. It should go in the handbook/manual.

There are only ten engines possible - so I divided the engines into ten power bands - picked the most common one - an used it. I tied each to a manufacturer - arbitrarily much of the time - but accurately when possible - because some reports will only show the manufacturer. If you play much with engines, you will quickly learn Kawasaki (Ha-5) and remember Ha-5 even when you only see Kawasaki. You will also realize this is a small engine (only Mitsubishi Ha-1 is smaller). Seven of these engines are in production in 1941 - and three need development. Late war planes needing big engines cannot get them from early war engine plants - that is you cannot stock engines for Ki-84s in 1942. This will tend to complicate production of better planes - and favor players who convert plants to doing more of the later engines (and fewer Mitsubishi Ha-1s).

The Ki-36 uses the Mitsubishi (Ha-1) engine in RHS - which is RHS code for "the smallest aircraft engine made in Japan." Gasouden is represented in the sense its factories are in the game - but you can only see that if you go to their city/location and see production is there. They are not present by name in any sense. This is unfortunate - and IF hard code allowed me to put the names I wanted in the reports - and if there were more slots - I would do it more correctly.
