Because it is not hard to package and upload (unlike Level 7), I have also sent up Level 5 file sets. These are identical to 6.742 in development and also have the least amount of eratta of all time. They also permit looking at the new Chinese OB, the new Soviet air division, and the new arrival schedule for USN LSTs. These files run about 50% faster than previous editions - a sign we are getting errors under control. The only known errors remaining are related to Allied leaders. Still more LSTs need to be date/arrival point revised. And the RTAF aircraft pointers will be reset when we have the right plane art filmstrips for them. These are very suitable files to play with - and planned enhancement of pwhex can be done during an ongoing game.

It isn't clear when we can do 5.75 - but when the air art is available we will issue the final revision and freeze development.

This is it: ALL eratta worked in - ALL reviewed matters worked in -

EXCEPT Cobra is not finished with Japanese plane art --

so there will follow a 6.75 microupdate with two corrected pointers

This should NOT be installed until AFTER Cobra releases the plane art.

Disclaimer: the new comprehensive ship art set is not wholly in sync with these files. It will be corrected by Blitzk - and presumably that will be that. But if there is a pointer problem, it should also be addressed by 6.75 - as will any other significant eratta reported.

We do not plan a significant update for many months during which we will be conducting human vs human testing.
Other developments (e.g. seasonal maps) will work with games in progress.

All files are being uploaded - as time permits - at the x.751 level. These are final and frozen until human testing is done - unless we find a significant issue.

Aircraft art will need one more release - but will work with these file sets even for a game in progress. New aircraft art should not be used with files older than x.74x level.

This set of files has mainly minor technical eratta relating to certain ship fields, class fields, unit pointers, etc.
However, VF-3 is set not to appear in EOS at all levels - so that is an important correction - and we release everything else at the same time.
It is designated x.752

Before uploading three more eratta came in - and they are folded in - with the set renamed x.753. The most significant of these was USS Pelecan AVL (light seaplane tender) air "group" of one seaplane upgrading to a night fighter.

We will probably not update Level 6 again - but Level 5 will be kept up to date - because it makes sense some people may not wish to play with Madagascar and the ship tracks - and because it may turn out to work well with a new Matrix update - if they implement off map movement boxes. Keeping Level 5 current means that - immediately - that version of RHS should work with such an upgrade.

We have found an aircraft engine upgrade issue, a British HQ appearence issue, and added or date corrected a number of USN LSTs. There is also a problem with Level 7 with a British entry/exit point disappearing. If this remains fixed four more hours, we will issue x.754 update file sets.

The second test series - taking us to 2/21/42 - was also positive - in spite of loading three more task groups at Recife - and issue that only is germane to Level 7. But since we are going to do an update - we will bring 5 and 6 in line with it - solving the engine and HQ items above, and adding a number of USN LSTs (because we have the opportunity - and there are more to add). The updates will upload in due course, and be frozen unless and until some matter requires attention.

Assuming that does not happen, we will do final updates to the pwhex files for Level 5 and 6, which are not quite at the stage Level 7 has reached. This will add the final touches to the caravan and truck routes in China and match up some hex sides.

I discovered UK/CW air HQ and engineer units are duplicated - and not entirely logically assigned squads - so these will be reworked for x.754

Nope. The US Thunderbolt has TWO 150 gallon drop tanks - while the British one has only one 75 gallon drop tank.
The weapons loads also differ. This data is provided by each service - and is indeed different. Further - endurance figures when drop tanks are used are misleading. You can only see the real game endurance by looking at a unit and measuring it in hexes. The drop tanks add 1 minute per gallon - that is the US has 199 plus 300 = 499 minutes! This then is multiplied times cruising speed and divided by 3600 to get range in hexes. This in turn is then multiplied by 60 to get the reported ferry range. Extended range is 33% of that - and normal range 25% of that - rounded down to the nearest multiple of 60 miles. If you are not confused, you should be a mathmetician!

The British endurance = 399 plus 75 = 474 - a lot less than the American version. As a rule, British values will be less than American ones. The British considered American's "reckless" (see loadings of ships) and also used different standards, different loads, etc.

Both 5 and 6 microupdate files are in the uploading process: Location, ship and device files only. These wholly replace x.754 microupdate and go on top of x.753 comprehensive update.

Level 5 is for players who want to use Andrew Brown's Extended Map system, or the RHS variation of that without ship channels. We all may want it with a new Matrix off map movement sytem - if and when it is released - because level 5 will work with it from the get go - no modifications required.

Level 6 is for players who want a stable form of RHS with ship channels. We hope this is the final version of 6,
but if 7 has any significant problems, we will continue to ehance 6 until 7 can replace it as the difinitive ship channel form.

We think 7 may be wholly functional now. We should know shortly. First pass (Long Game Test 301) looks good.
If so we will issue Level 5 and 6 final pwhex files sets and create the first turn for the tag team. This turn can also be played by anyone on an individual basis - in parallel with the tag team game. The turn will be published - as will various reports on it.

See 7.756 thread for comments. This is it for Level 6 - which means I will not have to update its 6 scenarios any more.

There is not a whole lot to this update at Level 5 and Level 6, but there is some. Some of the newly added HQ were in the wrong commands. The last 15 USN LSTs in the 700 series which were identified as missing have been added in.
A few other eratta were folded in.

A reported problem with the B-25 Shangra La unit (which ONLY applies to the EOS scenario since it is not in the others)
was investigated. Being unable to show the unit works - it seems to take orders but not fly from USS Hornet -
an entirely new B-25 was created for the purpose. This looks like the regular one - but it is a true carrier aircraft.
Time will tell if it works - or not? If it does - we may make the PBJ the same way - since the Marines got them for large carrier operations - but the war went so well the capability was not used. They did proove the concept on Essex class carriers, however.

One thing that did get fixed was a bad pointer on the Dutch CIX-W aircraft. However, it requires you download new Allied filmstrips to see it right. [Only one Allied art set is used for all scenarios - does not matter if you are doing EOS or standard RHS - the same strip works]

After resolving art issues, 6.758 was packaged and sent to the upload process.

Level 6 is no longer showing fewer errors than other levels - so it no longer has a role to play as the most stable RHS scenarios. Further - it appears that technical issues are sufficiently resolved to abandon development of 6. That is, it should work fine as it is. But we plan to issue a slightly improved pwhex file set for it.

Ship art pointers have a problem re the latest "RHS standardized ship art" files - at least for the Allies. This can be temporairily fixed by going to the RHS site, downloading from

a) RHS files and scenarios

b) RHS Basic Install Files

c) RHS EOS Ship Set

[Ignore the EOS part - there is only one RHS ship art file set]

In "5-6 days" there will be a revised "RHS standard ship art" file set - using the same pointers - and you can get it if you want it - even in the middle of a game.

This comprehensive update includes a small amount of moderate eratta, and extensive reworking of carrier air groups - breaking out combined squadrons into separate units - adding minor elements of recon planes and night fighters. This because we have learned that up to 6 squadrons/detachments may now serve on carriers - and are tolerable even if they resize (if you let them). We did work on USN night fighters, and added a TBF form of this type of aircraft, for two dedicated night fighter carriers. This is the first time this has been offered in WITP.

Otherwise we reworked some devices re load costs, and converted the PBJ to a torpedo bomber WITHOUT torpedoes - so it can operate from carriers. Shangra La Squadron remains present only in EOS - and it is defined as a PBJ - but has modified armament (which you cannot see but it is - trust me). [Modified = reduced] The PBJ is not assigned to any carriers - but it can be - and PBJ units can upgrade to carrier torpedo bombers or vice versa. IF used on a carrier it has higher attrition than other carrier planes do - for technical reasons - but since this should be the case - it is OK.

Level 5 also uploading. This Level will freeze development for now - but we will continue to keep it up to date. It is compatable with CHS and it can use a long contemplaced off map movement system if/when introduced by Matrix - whereas level 7 presumably would require modification to use it.
