Summary of Operations 10/8/42 Central Pacific: U.S. subs at Kwajalein, Pago Pago, and Canton Is reporting contacts with Jap carrier aircraft on patrol. Ki-49 Helen bombers still flying ASW patrol in the Kwajalein area. (no change) Unloading of supply on Jarvis Island is in last stages. South Pacific: Jap recon flights over Penhryn and Norfolk Is. The following new entry appearing in the 10/8 Ops Report indicates a possible Jap TF again operating in the Papaete area: E13A1 Jake sighting report: 1 Allied ship at 111,130 (Papaete), Speed 4 , Moving Southwest. The Alllied ship in question is PT-47 docked in Papaete (out of fuel) - the PT-47 now operating in the role of "canary in a coal mine". One U.S. sub is also operating in the vicinity of Papaete. The "phantom" E13A1 Jake sighting report at hex 84,149 is gone. Australia: One Jap air bombing attack on airfield facilities at Daly Waters - light casualties and damage. Japanese bombers (Ki-49 Helens) that "disappeared" from Darwin are now flying from Katherine. Hudson I recon flight over Exmouth reports total of 62 Jap aircraft (including 36 aux) based in Exmouth, otherwise no change. F-5A recon flight over Darwin reports ten additional Jap ships at anchor in Darwin port (86 ships now in Darwin), otherwise no change. India: Jap recon flights over Chittagong, Port Blair, Imphal. Jap air bombing attack at Dimapur. Allied air bombing attacks and fighter sweeps against Jap airfields and ground units in Magwe, Rangoon, Mandalay. AAR's for all follow.
