Hi guys,
Fresh back from a withering vacation on the San Antonio Riverwalk, I managed to save some ideas that the heat and alcohol didn't bake out of me. Here is the most important one.
New Security needs for SPWAW v 3.0
I have always wondered why, when starting a new PBEM game do you have to waste one round of email just to get the password situation straightened out.
Don't get me wrong Matrix guys, I LOVE THIS GAME. I play SPWAW more than ANY other game since it's release, but it just seems silly to me to waste one round of emails just to set the passwords.
Why can't the first person run his turn then set his password then send it to the second person who then runs his turn and sets his password.
I'm a hardware technician and I know that forever, the hardware guys have blamed the software guys and vice versa, but can't something be done without having to resort to a non-password protected game?
Second, I have a decent PC at work that runs SPWAW comfortably. Is there a way to allow folks to have a password protected game, BUT still allow them to play that same game on more than one machine.
Example: Mike (roommate) and I start a PBEM game at the apartment on Saturday. We each play a couple of turns over the weekend and then we work. At work, sometimes I finish early so thinking ahead, I emailed the turns from my homepc to my workpc. But I can't play them there since I get a security violation when I try to open them.
Honestly, the ONLY reason Mike and I use passwords is to make sure that neither of us opens up the wrong side, and passwords prevent that from happening. We often have several SPWAW games going on simultaneously so having the password protection helps.
I can't believe that we are the only folks playing SPWAW that use the passwords solely for that purpose.
So, Matrix folks, is there anyway you can help out us folks that would like to play this game on more than one machine and still let us have passwords to help us keep the games straight? Maybe by adding one more choice like "Non secure, password protected game" or something like that.
Ok, I've run out of hot air, NONE OF THIS WAS MEANT TO BE A FLAME JOB!
I love this game and will continue to play it LONG AFTER Homeworld and SFC have lost their luster.
Keep up the good work guys!
