Well I reviewed the rosters, and found that only 18 members of my core,infantry{4} engineers{6}.30cal.MMG{4}and Army 60mm mortar crew{4} can be counted with the 80 casualties,,, I held all the VH's until turn 28,, and did the majority of my damage with the Assie jungle patrols that were set to retreat to their sectors VH group. they managed an average of 4 to 10 kills per flamethrower burst,, with a rare high of 17 when they were in the stone building in front of the central group of 5 VH's.

Well I'm rereading Belton Y. Coopers, deathtraps, and I'm at the part where he describes the real St.LO breakout,, its really favoring massed airpower,, which is what really happened, but I wanted to give the AI a more favorable condition to preform their defend as a matched land battle rather than the aireal strikefest that the real battle turned into!
with the vis of only 15 hexes it should be a nice closequarters "move and countermove" type battle without any favors to either side.

the spotting of even my elite units just can't match their first shot firepower! my narrow line in the south is getting cut to pieces, from just trying to look over the rise to make the smoke screens

going with a small glider drop to draw pressure off the front lines efforts to breach the mineline, and get some FO intel from the flight in. the AA fire tracers are just below and left of the tail!

my front line assault is stagnating in the mines,, so my glider drop might be all that saves a crushing defeat for me.
this raer VH group is very well covered!!

I figured they'd save their best for last,, but they've got at least one jagdtiger and two to three elefants that I've seen in the gliders flybyes.
this is what I'm calling flak alley!!
