Actually, that's a ship mounted AA gun. She was probably involved in a surface battle at night at close range. It's particularly funny when a ship fires AA guns at a BB. All it does is clean off a few barnicles.

Of course you realize that the game only actually reports the last round that hit. It may have been the 18" shell that hit right before the 20mm that did the actual damage.

Exactly. I have a Japanese battleship on the "Sunk Ships" list in one of my games that is listed as being sunk by a 500lb GP bomb, even though we know that 500lb'ers are ineffective against BB's. It was the six torpedoes that did it...

Actually several ships were sunk during the war (IRL) by strafing with 12.7mm (at least a Japanese transport by the gunners of a B-24D hitting fuel cans stored aboard, and a MSW off Luzon in Dec 1941 sunk by P-35/P-40).
