I am getting ready to do my first invasion. It looks like Guadalcanal is pretty lightly defended (1 Inf + 2 Eng). I am planning on bringin in the the entire first Infantry Division units. Is there value in bringing the headquarters along as well for the initial assault or should this be brought in following the all-clear. I know in WITP that an amphib HQ gives bonus but I was not certain about UV. If this is the case what about the III Amphib Corps HQ. Any guidance is appreciated.

Regards,

Brett

I attach the parent formations hq just because you're usually short on support squads. Adding a corps level hq (or one that is in command range) adds a % benefit. Don't remember what it was. There is no specific amphib hq benefit, they're all treated just like other corps hqs.

Let us know how it goes.

Invasion went pretty much as planned. I was able to get the entire 1st Marine Div units including the HQ to Lunga unharmed. My timing couldn't have been more perfect because just as I was arriving, the IJN had started to move in some re-inforcements that became short work for the aircraft on Enteprise and Hornet? along with LBA from Irau. Either my recon was bad or they were able to reinforce just in time but there was an additional HQ unit, engineering unit, CD unit and a portion of another Infantry unit there. More than what I was expecting so the fighting was a little tight. It took about 4-5 days of basic attacks and a couple of days of shock attacks to take over Lunga. Thankfully, I brought along the tanks because they pretty much were unscathed during the battle. Also I only lost one AP from LBA out of Rabaul. Even better was that the Japanese choose not to evacuate their airgroups and thu they were destroyed

Plan now is to reinforce Lunga with CD and AA units along with a Seabees unit from Noumea and in a couple of days (allowing the troops a little bit of rest attack the units attempting to retreat from this hex). I don't expect a couterattack any time soon since a large portion of the IJN AP are on the ocean floor or heavily damaged.

Having Lunga will be very valuable in providing not only a jumping off point but more importantly another target for the LBA out of Rabual to take some of the heat off of PM. Although I have been able to move another CV group to the PM arena and have given one of the Bombardment groups out of Rabaul a nice bloody nose (earlier one of my subs in the passage between GG and the reefs put 3 fish into a IJN BB amd another sub put the finishing touches on her the next turn )

It is now Late July and I think I am in a good position. I will probably solidify my current position and start making plans for retaking GG on the Aussie side of the house (probably let the LBA out of Rabaul attrit themselves a little more)
