lol.

We had a quieter turn this time around - more bad weather.  More sinkings to come next turn no doubt but Raver hs forsaken his responsibility to do turns in order to go off and see the new James Bond flick.

I enjoyed the "new" James Bond flick.....I would recommend it.   Now back to the war.  As ratbrain has already said things are slowing down again.  I'm busy unpacking aircraft from their shipping crates and soon will be ruler of the skies!   Me thinks that it is time for an early bed, as I am knackered.

More like, Raver goes to bed because he doesn't want to see what I just did to his ships.  He's lost 56 ships confirmed sunk in his little expedition so far, and I've lost . . . well I think I lost a DD somewhere along the line?

My airpower is coming back up to snuff as rested pilots at Kwaj start to do some dirty work for KB, and KB starts selecting better targets.  irritated to see unescorted bombers but wasn't too bad.  Admirals Onoshi, Hosegawa (sp), Tanaka & Tashiro have done their countries proud with the number of surface battles they've won hands down.  I forgot to mention Onoshi's brilliant manouvreing with Kirishima and Hiei to smash Raver's equally old BBs at Kwaj.  Not sure what happened to those two BBs - they're hurt, but I don't think they've left yet.

St Lious still hasn't sunk, after getting torpedoed many times ;)

Enjoy - is an extremely long combat report where my naval aviation just sinks transports, and transports and then an escort, but mostly transports.  hope they were full of planes.

Unfortunately I still haven't got a decisive edge at either Clark or Singapore - this is what happens when you take PM, Wake, Kragen etc all at the same time.  I've got some recouperating units that are desperately in need of R & R after their heroic role in the storming of Borneo, Cebu, Mindanao etc. but I may need to commit them to Malaya or Luzon.  Is very distressing really.  When one of the two allied strongholds falls, the other will topple (because I'll double my weight on it).  Soerbaja actually looks to fall first! Especially when my eng units catch up.

Things in China are ok 0- Raver is trying to nuisance himself to glory by sending single chinese regiments to sit on railroad hexes.  Is fine with me - I rout them piecemeal and move on - I'm aiming at Kweilin would complete my railroad front, and I could continue my advance on Sian.  Of course, soon after I'll clear off the chinese raiders at nanning, but they can't break through without serious reinforcement, and i've cut them off from Hanoi so I hope to starve them down a bit.

In Burma my 3 divisions, combat regiment, engineers etc are rolling towards Mandalay and another bunch of silly river crossing shock attacks.  However as Raver well knows, any further than that is impossible for my troops until the fall of Singapore for extra supply, troops, Andaman & akyab invasions.

Pfffft........too late she cried !   Luskan should have done this four days ago.  As it is I have well over 100K of supplies as well as all the troops and aircraft that I need.

I would go for Mandalay by way of Pagan and cross there and go overland to Mandalay. Why shock attack directly into the teeth of his defenses.

Another awesome turn for me as I sink more and more allied transports.  Raver sure has a lot of them!  I'm looking to sink the two crippled allied BBs at Maleoap sooner or later as well, but Raver's got lots of fighters crammed in there I suspect.  Bad weather persists, but it didn't stop Nagumo from launching a blistering series of attacks on a single allied transport tf transporting the 111 Regimental Combat Team.  They're basically all drowned (as you'll see on the report).

My airbase at Rangoon stretches its muscles as it hammers some minelayers at Akyab under the waves.  I've got plenty of airpower at Kwajalein now that hasn't flown in a turn.  Another turn or two of this and I will have cleared the ocean of Raver's ships and I'll need to start paying some serious attention to reducing his airbases, and his supply depots at his two bases.

He has falied to take Jaluit - which is good - leaving him only two airbases against my 5 or so.  I've got troops, supplies, planes, hqs, eng units all racing for kwajalein to be a part of the counter attack.  If I'd extracted this kind of cost before the landings, raver would have been forced to abort.  As it is, I'm making it painful for him, but he is essentially correct - his objective was to take two airbases, and he's done that.

His second objective is to supply those airbases and keep them in fighting order to attrite as much as possible the length of the war (good tactic) and try to draw my forces to concentrate around Kwajalein, removing the pressure/danger against places like northern Oz, India, China etc.

I have lost 11 KB pilots since the start of this battle - I have been fortunate in that a lot of my pilots survive destroyed aircraft.  On the other hand, the average experience has rocketed through the roof as they get all this practise sinking transports!

5th of February - Singapore, Clark and Manila aren't going to be falling soon! Soerbaja might, and certainly I'm making leaps and bounds in Burma now I've smashed through Raver's river defence lines.

In other news . . . well same as the last . . . 10 turns? Where are all of Raver's ships coming from? How does he keep providing me with ships to sink? Why does he do it?  KB refuelled and rearmed this turn - I've lost 13 planes and 6 pilots - an excellent exchange for KB sinking . . . 100? enemy ships.  To date I've had a damaged BB, 3 damaged CAs, and 4 damaged DDs.  All will live - I haven't lost a ship in this battle so far and Raver has lost over a hundred at least.  Including a CV, and there is no way for him to extract his two shattered battleships (I pounded on one a bit more this turn).  They'll sink too (Raver doesn't care - they're old).

RADMs Onoshi, Tashiro, Tanaka and good old Nagumo (whom I usually don't put in command of KB - Yamaguchi tends to do better work sometimes) have run roughshod over Raver's transport fleet.  I couldn't have ever intercepted this many transports out on the open ocean - this early in the game it is going to limit the amount of supplies and grunt he can get from the US to australia.  Certainly Raver will move some of the millions of british AKs south and around OZ to help with just that, but that is a long round trip.

My ships are in shape - although Kwaj needs to gain another port level before I can restock torpedoes there, I've cycled several "worn" dds out of my tfs as I got a reinforcement tf of 10 new ones to Kwaj late last night.  They're all eager to try and get up close to either of Raver's damaged BBs (which have very few guns left on the top of them) and torp them to death.  Hiei finished off Concord, Cushing and Preston this turn without batting an eyelid, while Onoshi's tf sank the Raleigh and used the Arizona for target practise.

Ashigara was damaged today, but that is it.  None of these ships are going to escape (that I can see).  I also unloaded a small inf unit on Jaluit to ensure the base doesn't fall, and massacre the allied troops there as the first step.  The second step should be obvious to any Jap player - starts in about 6 or 7 turns.

In other news the Sarah gets away scot free !  Buggered if i know what that clown bananana boy is doing but he just let her slip out of reach.  She was a sitting target with her air groups gutted.  Well I am not one to complain.    Lex is safely tucked-up in port at Pearl....mostly float damage which repairs quicker than sys damage, but she will still be out of the fight for a few months.

Hmm . . . if the Sarah got away, how did Luskan pocket 380 points for sinking her?

I seem to have miscalculated how fast Raver could get the F4F-4 model into action. (Must have been thinking that they didn't historically enter service until mid-March 1942 -- serves me right for paying attention to reality.) That fact that Raver now has two bases in the area makes him a lot more of a threat than I thought. The F4F-4 has over four times the build rate of the -3 model, and that's an advantage in a battle of attrition. (Which it looks like we're going to see.)

i think CD guns will shot on enemy ships only in two cases:

1. if they bombard the base

2. if they are part of invasion fleet which unloads troops

Otherwise, the enemy ships can enjoy and sink your ships...

(as JFB all i can say that i also enjoy in these moments of the game - shame on me)

Raver sinks som barges and 3 empty TKs at Kwaj, but I sink his DDs later that turn.  Arizona sinks, and New Orleans gets sunk by a sub.  And I sink another dozen allied ships.

Just to show some highlights of the sunk ship tally.

I've lost 1 BB.
Raver has lost 4, with another about to sink.

I've lost 15 dds
Raver has lost 35, with a few more about to sink/be sunk.

I've lost 2 CLs.
Raver has lost 8.

I've lost no CAs.
Raver has lost 7.

I've lost no CVs.
Raver has lost 1.

I've lost 2 AKs, and 5 APs.
Raver has lost 85  AKs and 8 APs.  Awesome.

I've calculated that Raver has lost over 100 ships in his little stunt at Kwaj - and I am confident (now I've done some reinforcing, resupplying) that I'm a: not gonig to loose any more ground, and b: going to be able to sink anything he sends close.

He isn't anymore though

Quieter turn this time around.  I gave a few air groups with KB a day off today - they've launched for so many days straight!  I had a few more "cleanup" surface combat tfs whip through - I've got KB stationed across the enemy escape route - the real issue is that Raver still has dozens of ships there, still unloading supply.  i've got to sink them, clear the ports, bomb the crap out of the CD units, bombard the airbases and invade.

A quick look at the score for those of you that are interested.

I need to wipe a few more allied army points off the board - china will suffice for that.
Air to air has been VERY pleasing, since those losses are at Kwaj, but my air to air losses are generally sonias etc in china.

enjoy.

after playing with Raverdave full year i think i understand him well
i'm not surprised with what i see
unless you hurt Raverdave with each early attack he will not stop coming
short term losses are nothing important for him
you need to force him to think that going behind fence will be pointless
breaking into his plans is sth like that
forcing to abandon ideas , atacking with tempo etc
so far Luskan was far from that
and Raverdave can take much bigger punishment than any other player in PBEM

Is he in charge of the Soviet Army or the Ceylons or something? I would hate to have been a grunt/sailor/pilot under his command! The "just a flesh wound" school of command!

All of the ships that have so far been sunk are all pre-war units.............you should SEE whats queued up in the shipping yards.  I can take double the losses that I have so far and STILL be uneffected in my ability to resupply and transport troops.  Luskan is in for a hard time.

All pre war units eh? What about Liberty?

I am aware Raver can absorb the losses long term - but the point is to have sunk enough allied shipping to get my autovictory at the end of 42 or 43.  I haven't doubled Raver's score yet, but once Manila/Singapore/Java fall . . . throw in some losses in China, and another few thousand points worth of sunk allied shipping (for no cost to me) . . . you get the picture.

Auto victory??????      Do I LOOK like I am playing with auto-victory in mind?  We are playing to the death, no stinking arbitrary  Auto-victory for us !

We won't stop playing after autovictory, this is true.  The true test is to see if I "win" before I inevitably loose the war - or at least see if I last longer.

The trick with the late-jap game is to avoid dice rolls as much as possible.  At the start of the war, the dice go the japs way - but later in the game . . . well, CD units, minelayers and forts go a lot further than surface combat/cv assets.

As you'll be able to see from the date, I forgot to post the CR for the 8th of Feb.  Looked the same as the 7th, 6th, 5th, 4th, well every day in Feb really.  My planes took off and sunk allied transports and my ships slipped in and sunk allied transports.  DD Otori must have hit a mine (wasn't reported though) because she was messed up the next turn, but she'll make it.  I've had 10 damaged surface combat ships in return for probably 150 of Raver's ships sunk.  More of the same again this turn.

This turn and last turn my units have carefully attacked Soerbaja and reduced the fort, for minimal losses on both sides, and minimal disruption and fatigue.  I'm going to complete my southern Java conquest first, then move back north (want to isolate from Oz).  Which will mean taking Bali as soon as possible.  Soerbaja is 3-5 turns from falling - shameful that I haven't managed to knock Singapore or Manila or Clark off yet.

My department had a  . . . quality control session from 5pm until 7am, when it was discovered the sun had somehow come back up and we were due back at work in 2 hours . . . just a warm up for the real deal tomorrow.

I've learnt never to do turns for Raver when I'm drunk anyway.  Tend to miss things.
