Raver's almost run out of ships at Kwajalein and none left at Wotje - they've all pulled out.  KB has moved on to new hunting grounds (why keep them there when I've got a LOT of betties & zeros at Kwaj) and I started bombarding his airfields today.

Soerbaja fell this turn, the CD unit surrendered but the base forces retreated to the dead end at Malang.  I expect to slaughter them there within a turn or two.  Soerbaja was captured intact, with oil, resources, supply & fuel all ready to use.

All of the ships that have so far been sunk are all pre-war units.............you should SEE whats queued up in the shipping yards.  I can take double the losses that I have so far and STILL be uneffected in my ability to resupply and transport troops.  Luskan is in for a hard time.

Hence the need for higher VP values for ships and even ship complement factors, like LCU squads. And you are a CG volunteer! LOL

Another turn slips by and I press the defences at Manila again to no avail.  You'll note I've stepped up the aerial bombardment at Singapore - I've started to really get annoyed with my lack of progress on the main front.  Can't get too distracted with Raver's sideshow at kwaj.  He's settled in to attrite me there - so I've got no doubts he's planning a sneaky punch elsewhere (PM attempt? Rabaul? Lunga? Woodlark?).  I chewed his cap up this turn and sank another DD - but on the whole fairly uneventful at Kwaj.  Raver has got a few damaged units out - but in the turns he's been at wotje and Maleaop he's unloaded a huge amount of torops and supplies.  I'll continue to strangle him, but it will take a while (and time and effort).  In the meantime, he's probably piled up Palymra/Xmas Island with enough supplies troops and aircraft to make the islands sink a bit lower.  My interdiction invasions between US and Oz are going to be much harder now.

Enjoy.

And here I was thinking that Luskan was going to sweep Singapore up like a rake going through leaves. Still, I've been wondering why in WiTP there don't seem to be many drawn-out combats on the ground. Now Raver's got two important ones going at Singapore and Manila. The fact that he still has enough supplies to use his artillery in Singapore makes me think for once his boast to keep the place past Feb. 15th wasn't propaganda.

As many JFBs have pointed out, for all the razzle & dazzle (of sinking jap ships) my turn 1 dilutes the jap firepower too far afield.  I ran a variant of this turn one against Xargun, and although my surface combat went better (almost had to didn't it?!) it wasn't a clean sweep - and that game is in a similar position to this one - I lack the brute firepower to get Manila or Singapore to capitulate.  If only I'd known about the river crossing thing I would have gone in differently.

Just goes to show that I DO tell the truth here!

I just have to hold out for four more days at Singers to beat the real life fall date. If I do that I'll be very happy.

Naturally -- the really good liars know that you have to tell the truth occasionally to get people to believe your lies. (I'm still cheesed off about Clinton claiming he "did not have sexual relations" with Monica.)

STOP PRESS!!! I SUNK A US SUB!

Not just hit one, but sunk it.  First time for everything (Raver' slammed one of my subs as well but that isn't out of the ordinary.

Lots of bombardments starting at Maleaop, although for some reason they don't seem to be having much effect.  I've got aggressive leaders etc.

Raver's silliness in China continues - where he has individual divisions WAY behind my lines . . . not that they'll do him any good.  Not sure how he gets supplied, but I'm planning to spend some PP points, get some sallies in and bomb those chinese troops to hell.  He continues to try to take Nanning, which is still valiantly held by my Mix rgt and the forts - Raver's 4 chinese divisions there just lack the punch to rip through the forts, so the forts slowly expand as Raver's troops diminish (and those units have been repulsed so often now they're next to useless.  once a chinese unit is out of action, they're years in recovering combat capability.

Raver has responded my moving a large army (29 units) from the fortress at Kweilin and marching them in that direction.  I hold Wuchow, so i'm not to concerned there - by I'll keep an eye on these chinese units.  If Raver is "invading" mongolia with chinese units, no reason I shouldn't invade right back, and go for the central chinese heartlands.  Might have more success there than at Manila or Sinapore.

Manila is a tough nut - as is Clark.  I don't hold enough of a firepower advantage at either - and with places like the solomons, Kwaj & PNG all sucking up my small inf units I can't even bolster them up that way.  I strongly suspect Luzon will hold until after the conquest of Java is compete.  Singapore on the other hand has shown major signs of weakening this week.  First off - my bombardments kill more allies than his kill japs - this was the other way around to begin with.  Also, my bombing attacks on Singapore are having an immediate effect on supply and disruption because every turn the airfield damage was repaired . . . except this turn there is some left over ;)  Not a lot, but enough to convince me the end is near.  I took Muntok this turn too.

Perhaps most satisfying was the rather pointed reminder that although my entire Eastern Pacific Fleet is involved at Kwaj, I've still got a lot of surface combat firepower - especially around Java.  RADM Kono lead Chokai and her escorts into an attack on the ships in Darwin harbour last night (they were too well defended for mini KB to get them) and sank a bunch of empty AKs, and a AS (!!) that Raver foolishly left unguarded.  His preference for dozens of small tfs helps him when it comes to air raids, but costs him when it comes to surface combat engagements.

Enjoy

The reason that i am using my Chinese troops troops like I am is that NO supplies move when there are sitting where they are.

In a move that has once again caught Luskan on the hop, troops from New Zealand have landed on Tarawa! ! ! This is part of operation Remora which is designed to keep the Japs of balance until the end of '42. The first part with it's invasion of the Marshalls Islands was a success, how ever in an effort to ensure that those new won Islands do not become isolated it was decided to launch a surprise attack against Tarawa. Inaddition this will further split ratbrains' forces as he now has to deal with yet another Island in his defense perimiter having been lost.

The banananana boy is really under some presure now.

Nice to see my minefields are starting to score some hits

Tarawa wasn't really a surprise - but I had nothing in the area to defeat it.  The good news is that Raver's troops stormed ashore and met determined opposition - which will prevent them from taking the base.  They'll rot just like his troops on Jaluit.

The whole operation in the Marshalls was an awesome move by an allied player, in spite of the losses.  My bombardments just aren't hurting him, his minefield is hurting me, and I'm devoting lots of firepower to a spot on the map that Raver can guarantee is too far to affect PNG, SRA, India etc.  Disappointed with the bombardments - they might have been toned down in previous patches because I can't even scratch the airfield with 5 battleships!  Aggressive admirals too.  Even let the escorts have a go (bad move - cost me a destroyer crippled to later be sunk and another damaged).

Nice to see jap BBs are still immune to dauntlesses though.

Luskan is still  reacting to me rather than moving ahead with his own plans.  I have done what I wanted and that is focused his attention at a time and place of my choice.  The operations in the Marshalls and pulling a LOT of jap firepower that could be used elsewhere.  And soon he is going to have to deal with Tarawa as well.

It is not often that I telegraph a punch, but me thinks that Luskan could use a break...........my NEXT target is PM.  It is currently lighty defended and I have all of those Aussie troops sitting around doing bugger all.

Liar.  To move those Kiwi troops to Tarawa you've spent all your pp points.  You've got nothing to send to PM.

With all the float planes and units from the west coast in the Marshalls I doubt you've got the PP points to go near PM.  You certainly don't have the shipping!

More interesting play today as I deliberately attack singapore - and althuogh my troops were unable to reduce the fort, the allies still lost more troops.  This is a good sign.  In ohter news, Raver's dauntlesses bombed a transport and a MSW out of Maleaop today and scored some hits.  He tried to storm Tarawa again, and again the defenders held.  Fortunately I have weathered the worst of it - with all Raver's units there with high disruption, the worst is past.  I've got several small inf units in to protect the place and there are a whole lot more on the way to massacre the kiwis.  His gambits at Jaluit and Tarawa have failed, but I'm not looking certain to win at maleaop.  Wotje might be doable though.

Chickens before they hatch, Raver . . . That said, I salute you for your amazing stomach for casualties. You've made this game a LOT more interesting than early '42 usually is. And yes, this has to be doing ungodly things to Luskan's timetable.

Raver.......you should ship the 18th UK div and the 7th Aus divisions to Java. Along with a B25 unit and assorted fighter units. Dig in hard there. You can really make him bleed badly for it.

You could also order each and every engeneer unit into Palembang and let Luskan get a totally destroyed base without any undamaged resource or oil!

I am rather gun-shy about sending any Brit troops out of India as Honda nd Sneer have have punished me in other PBEMs for letting my guard down. The Aussie 7th is earmarked for the counter invasion of PM and should be embarking in the next 5 days or so.

Tarawa falls to the allies ! ! !   Now that pesky banananana is in all sorts of trouble.   The Invasion of PM is planned and has been given the green light.   I am on the rampage !

It was a rather non event..............I attacked and one the day, sent bananana boy's troops scurrying to the other side of the Island.  Game turns have been slow (bloody Xmas) from both sides.
