I'll point out how Raver neglected to post the parts of the sunk ship list pertaining to his shrinking navy ;)

Some action this turn, but mostly aftermath and repositioning.  It is the 15th of January - 5 weeks into the war, and some progress has been very speedy - some very slow.

Example: Java - I'm nowhere near the place yet.  Still cleaning up Borneo/southern indonesian chain.

Malaya: On target here - only singapore and the little base north east of Singapore (empty) remain in Raver's control, and although I expect a long fight here, he can't win and I'll prevent those aussie troops from leaving for India.  I'll bring in some level bombers and give it a working over within a week or two.  Expected to fall by or around 1st of Feb.

Burma: Things a bit slower here than usual, but Rangoon is just about empty (Raver has pulled 6 units out to try and hold his next river defence line at Mandalay and Pagan.  I'll be chasing them down soon enough - but Rangoon gets me nothing unless I already have singapore - so no rush.  I'll do things methodically and properly (cover all the hexes so nothing "escapes" Rangoon.

PI: Well, all the PI is mine . .. except for Luzon.  Clark, Lingayen, Manila, Naga and Bataan are all still holding out - and my troops are moving at the slowest imaginable pace.  Clark won't fall until the 1st of Feb (little bit of bombing going on here and there, but not a lot) while Naga looks set to hold out indefinitately (my southern front was a good idea, and I've cut him off from Manila via Lamon Bay, but these troops landed at Cagayan, Davao, Cebu and Legaspi - and they have a failed attack against the Naga fortifications that cost them dearly once already.  These guys just don't have the strength left to make it work).  Generally once Luzon falls (very slowly) those suddenly freed up divisions and troops are your springboard to a: crush Singapore under a stupidly large weight of firepower, and b: move on south to Java/launch your SRA periphery operations so that by May 42, you're threatening PM, threatening northern Oz/Midway etc.

Elation is still plodding along, and Bert my troops are ashore at Pontiniak and it will fall next turn.  Boris should show up on Raver's rader any turn now, and careful observation might spot operation boris (lower case to confuse the allied cryptographers) which is a secret side mission that may . . . or may not work.  Won't hurt me terribly if it doesn't (and to be honest, won't hurt raver terribly if it does) but the nuisance factor is certainly worth it.

Congrats to Raver -- scratch one battlewagon! (Though in fairness to Luskan, it's one of his leat valuable ones: only 14" guns, and slow.)

What's going on with that ground combat?? Luskan gets 97 to 1 odds and STILL doesn't break even on casualties? Has Raver got a squad of Rambos there?

There must be some rule that says cut off, surrounded, starving troops fight better than well fed, secured flanks etc.

Well my forces from operation Boris stormed ashore at Banjarmarsin this turn.  Both Bert and Boris have received great attention from the overly-accurate allied air forces on Java, and I've had several transports damaged.  Good news there is that they're only damaged - they won't sink any time soon, and my troops were all ashore.  With the exception of Sampit, Bert and Boris have completed my assimilation of Borneo.  The reason they took so long? because my troops were exhausted, and had landed on beach after beach in the SRA (empty ones mostly) and to scrounge them together, get some food into them and rest them for a week was a massive delay.

In other news boris looks like it is completely screwed - I am not 100% sure yet - but there are more than a few signs/hints that Raver has anticipated it, and is standing by with everything he has got.  It would have been a masterstroke to get right, but I just don't think it is possible (hence the fact I haven't heard of any other japs players doing it).  More to come in 5 or 6 turns when the decision is final.

Elation has left the preliminary stage! Jap assets are in place, and charging for their ultimate goal.  The next 10-15 turns will be intense as I wait to see if Raver anticipated this one as well!

In other news, my troops shock attacked at Naga and smashed the fort down to size 1 for negligible losses.  Seems Raver's troops ran out of puff and supply (cut off from Manila).  A turn or two to rest my troops, and then 1 more shock attack and it is all over - the southern advance on Luzon will reach manila before the northern force reaches Clark (stupid how slow they move).

I would only move from the south. The new shock attack rules have made getting into Clarke or San Mantecllo from anywhere north trouble. I have seen divisions of IJA troops shock attack into Clarke only to be thrown right back out again by an Allied counter attack.

Put the pressure on at Manila from the south, and only move into Clarke if he moves most of his forces into Manila to use the urban bonus. I usually use 3-4 divisions in the south and 1 div and a brigade in the north to bottle someone up.

Things going well at Homan, as I wear the chinese dorts and defenders down.  Raver's "scatter" policy doesn't really work that well so far in China (although he did get a lot of ships out of the SRA intact).

Bert and Boris are now complete, with Banjarmasin falling - I have several damaged transports (again, none sunk) from this turn, but htey just unload their troops and get next transport flotilla picks them up.

Lots happening around the map - Raver's suddenly upped his air activity around Midway.

Raver just spotted boris.  This one is going to be tough I think - bad weather kept his planes grounded this turn (and I was hoping to have them all launch and be grounded/tired for next turn - no such luck.

Elation still looks promising . . . kind of.

Problem is, Raver has only played the allies and he is very experienced.  he is getting results that most allied players (me included) just don't see because he's covered the same ground in the game over and over and over again.  By this stage, my opponent is supposed to be wetting their pants at the wave of IJ units flooding across base after base.  Raver is still unpanicked.  Going to have to do something more drastic.

Battles at Naga and Homan progressing well (as you can see) but annoyed at the usual dumb crossed a river so must shock attack rule at Singapore.  Waste.

Well well well.  A good turn for the japs as Saratoga is spotted headed West about 6 hexes east of Johnston Island.  Now I know where 1 allied cv is.  Probably responding to the fact I just bombarded Noumea last turn but maybe not - looks to be in a hurry and I plan to see if I can't make two lines intersect on the map

In even better news this turn, my troops landed UNOPPOSED at Kragen - this was the top secret operation boris.  Turns out Raver was ready but must have changed his mind (allied land units 1 hex away on the railway junction, but they were previously in kragen).  With my bombardment of Soerbaja a few turns back, and Batavia last turn I've just tested the water so to speak.  The real assault was here - Boris and Bert were just side show diversions, resigned to draw out allied airpower, allied surface units and keep allied attention firmly fixed on the transports/targets there.  They missed the main invasion tf (over 50 transports, 30 surface combatants and some smallish jap flat tops) completely in the bad weather and now they're on Java.

That's right, I've got troops on Java, next turn I'll have a base all of my own (without a fight) and a turn or two after that, I'll have air superiority.

In other news, my troops in the north of Luzon have advanced another hex and beaten the retreating units back to Clark.  Also, with my capture of Mersing (this turn or next) I have moved some heavy bombers into Johore Bharu - 1 hex from singapore.  I never planned to over run singapore (not going to happen early with the aussie troops still there - I'm thrilled to report) - I was hoping for a lightning Luzon campaign (and didn't get one).  Instead I sent just enough troops to Malaya, leaving a division and two large brigades (and lots of small inf) for my Java attack.  I made sure there were lots of eng units at Singapore to reduce the forts - and I've also sent a crapload of guns to bombard the place senseless.  Will be a long slow one.

Java on the other hand, will be a whirlwind campaign ;)

Nice move, Luskan. Obviously Java is going to be very different this time, contrasted with last game's psychological maneuver / bald-faced lie about Java. How are you doing on capturing the necessary Oil and Resource bases?

Apart from the bases on Java, and Palembang, I own them all.  All of PNG/Solomons are mine.  All of the SRA is mine - except for Singapore, Luzon, Java and a few smaller southern island chains.

Just have a look see how I cleaned up the tail end of PNG this turn ;)

Unfortunately Raver force marched a single defending unit into Kragen which prevented my weak early attempt at hitting it.  Of course, next turn I've got a division and 3 tank regiments there now so I expect to take the place ;)  Bad weather kept allied bombers either away or way off target.

Homan falls, and I'm thrilled at the fact that a: I own the place and b: once routed, Chinese units take years to recover.  Those units won't be bothering me again for a while (because I'm going to kick them up the road t Sian).

Nasty bombardment attacks from Raver at Singapore - got to get my bombers hitting him hard enough to start to attrite supply/guns.

Things are developing nicely with regards all the land combat around the place.  No forts left at Naga, a chinese unit surrenders, rangoon falls, all my troops are ashore at kragen (haven't stormed it yet) without loosing a single ship (eh??? allied obmbers have reverted to their original hopelessness) and Gili Gili falls.  I also take San Marcelino, bomb Singapore a little bit, and loose a PC boat to an aggressive sub captain.

The only downside is that Raver's spotted my sub picket near Palmyra and is going for it with a vengeance -two subs crippled in two turns.  His hunter killer asw tactics are effective.

*Yawn*  Wake me up when Luskan decides to actually start moving......his attacks are sloppy and slow. java should have been taken well over a week ago.  His attempts at Singapore are nothing short of pathetic ( I will still be there on the 15th of Feb).  Bananana boys bumbles his way north in Burma.....should have had it closed off days ago.  I'm not even sure that he knows what he is doing in Burma.

Every time Raver mouths off something bad happens to him.  This turn, Naga fell, all the troops there surrendered (because I'd cut them off) which leaves Manila wide open.  Also this turn, I-20 puts a torp into the lex!!!!!  Of course, looked like no damage and Raver sank the sub, but it is probably enough to convince him to stop messing around with his CVs and send them back to port by 1943.

I admire a man with the stones to throw down a challenge like that, but if I had to bet money I'd bet Luskan will have cleaned the place up well before. He's already bombarding away with over three weeks until your target date.

An emergency dash to the hospitol to have my son's appendix removed has slowed things down a tad (btw he is fine, they operated on him at 11pm and he was home by 2 pm the next day).

But to more important things......lex has float damage of 22 and if anything the hit with the torp is more a pain in the arse as she was going to be used in the defence of PM.

Patients in Australia are sent home the next day when they get their appendix is operated? In Austria you are kept in hospital for observation for five days!

What is there to observe? They have already taken out the thing that was causing the problem (appendix).

Australian doctors tend to think the best thing for any patient is not to be in a hospital where there are lots of sick people.

Having had a wrist reconstruction, I can understand that.  If something goes wrong, I'll go back to hospital - if not, get me the hell out of there.  I have only 1 real fear/phobia, and that is syringes/needles/canulas (sp) - there are a LOT of these in hospitals.  Nothing worse in the whole world - period.  (I hate spiders too but that is more a murderous urge rather than fear).

Raver is joking when he says those CVs were going to be used in the defence of PM.  The lex was over at palmyra when she got torped.  PM is a week away at best speed - and he would never telegraph his moves like that.  Of course, PM has already fallen anyway ;)

Sometimes this game makes you smile.  Sometimes this game is about luck (I've been unlucky so far this game).  However my luck is back and things have evened out a bit since I lost that BB.

Port Moresby falls.  The allied troops decide to retreat over the Owen stanleys to dobadura (no base there, just a green dot).  I own Buna, so this is extremely unlikey I feel.

Last turn, one of my subs put a torp into the lex and was sunk for the trouble.  Raver has done an amazing job at criplping/sinking my pacific sub fleet.  So good I had to pull my subs back.  I only had one left in the area - armed with a float plane (to report on enemy convoy movements - not to sink them) SS-19.  Her commander, Namahara is a good enough bloke.  He saw the damaged Lex in his periscope and put another torp into her ;) - He copped a depth charge ofr his trouble, but was only minor damage.  He then came back and put a SECOND torp into the Lex, and has got away scott free.

Of course, he now has no torpedoes so he's returning to base when he should be chasing her down and finishing the cripple.  Raver running over that sub was 1000-1 chance - it wasn't on the shipping lane, and was the only sub (after it's sister ship got sunk last turn) within a 10 hex radius!

Lady Lex is on fire, with heavy damage, 3 torp hits . . . she might make Pearl . . . she might not.  Just have to wait and see.

I have only 1 real fear/phobia,

Could that be the Super Weapon that Raver has hinted about. Of course I speak of the Raver-blade2000 - a gas turbine powered machine that automatically peels banannas?

A peeled banana is even more dangerous

Besides, Raver's "Super Weapon" is likely just the manifestation of his inferiority complex.  That or he's discovered velcro.

I know the feeling of seeing one of your carriers being torped. But how´s the feeling if the same carrier gets torped two times in one turn????

No follow up from Raver on the Lex - not sure if she sank or not - I think my sub (1 torp left) spotted some dds very close to Pearl - but no Lex.  Is more likely that Raver sent extra DD escorts from Pearl to shepherd the Lex home.

Elation came to a close this turn - with the last supplies at fortress PM being unloaded.  I now have a heavily defended springboard from which I can cut australia off from the US.

In other news, the CL Sumatra which tried so ineffectively to sink my transports was found and punished this turn.

Raver says the Lex is still just afloat - but does that means she's just afloat and sinking, or just afloat because she's about to be dry docked?

Just watch the intel report for a/c losses. If you see a slew of ops loss F4F, SBD and TBD. Then the ship sank for sure.

Punished? "Terminated" is more like it. She will be spending the rest of her days supporting the fish habitat as a reef!
