Bah !  The Lex still floats.........I've decided to risk running her to the West coast rather than her getting hit again.  Float damage is 59% so the long trip to SF will be interesting.

In other news I have an idea for a new operation.

AN idea?????

This lying bastard has just pulled a very smooth, offensive allied move and he's about to embarass me with the details on the forum.  Sneaky bastard has either gottens ome awesome sig int, or he knows me too well.

I fully expected him to show up and fight when I took PM.  Only I didn't expect him to show up at PM exactly - I was betting he'd spot my CVs at PM, and do his patented "Kendari" allied CV raid, where he pops up in the lower indonesian chain with 3 allied CVs, torps a few transports (from behind Java I aws betting - striking across the island at my invasion).  So I had mini KB out there waiting, and as soon as RAver's planes at PM tangled with my KB zeros at PM, I sent them WEST.  Fast.

Now Raver shows up with about 200+ ships in 8-10 TFs off Kwajalein.  When I say off Kwajalein, all my mavis squadrons were moved to Truk, Lunga, Rabaul, PM, Wake, Marcus, Tarawa (you get the picture - everywhere but Kwaj) so the sly bastard is about 4 hexes from Kwaj with his entire fleet.

Ah - suddenly the jap fanboy is rubbing his hands together! I've got 200+ level bombers at Kwaj with umpteen zeroes to support them! He's going to get creamed!
Actually, he's not.  Those betties and nells, most of them are at Lae, Kendari, Balikpapan and Wake (I have 9 betties at Kwaj and 27 zeros.  They all launched and managed to sink a DM.  Worst of the worst is that I moved most of those nell and betty squadrons LAST TURN.  Which means they aren't in any state to be moving straight back and into combat.

Raver has been very clever - and I can see how he's timed it/done it.  He's noted how many BBs I have off Java and PM.  He knows where they all are.  He also knows he's sunk 1 and damaged 2, and there are two more off Singapore.  He watched the combat replay of what units I invaded Wake with, and what units I invaded Midway with, and figured out (rightly) that they all came from Kwajalein (especially the base forces/inf units).  He's KNOWN my CVs wouldn't be far from my two big invasions at PM and Java, and he's also known that I expected him to run like a girl after Lex got torped back to the west coast.  Either that or he got some sig int as to where KB was and is heading.

So, I expect Raver has a marine division or two up his sleeve, he's going to take Maloeap (sp) because it is empty, set up shop in one foul swoop and start an air battle.  He might land at two or three of those little islands - he knows I'll just take them back in a month or two, but he also knows I can't stop him.  I was sure after our first beta test, when he took his CVs in week two to have a smack at Kwaj and lost 1, that he'd never do that again.  There are more base forces en route to Kwaj - but they're days away at best.  There are bettiers and nells within a days flight I can transfer in (and I will) but most of them are already exhausted - they need a day or two to rest, and by then, this little nightmare will be over anyway.

My woman has told me to calm down - all the swearing is getting to her - so I'm going to go and fume about this until waterboy gets back from coast guarding and sends me the next turn.

I'm going to have to invade Australia to get this guy on the back foot where he belongs.

A more likely explanation si that Raver's figured out my password and is cheating

And Raver is sinking my subs.

Dangerous doings. I once had Prince of Wales in the Solomons-Noumea area get hit. Got down to around a dozen float, so I sent it to San Francisco. Sank around 80% of the way there. Float damage just slowly climbed higher and higher.

Think of it this way -- he may be making you a present of an American division. He can take advantage of a small window in time, but at this stage of the war an air battle can hardly hope to go his way. (He hasn't even got the F4F-4 yet.) Maybe you could even wait for his engineers to build you a nice big airfield . . .

You can't let Raver get an airbase into knife fighting range at any stage of the war.  It'll be size 9 with 4 divisions and 200+ B17s before you can blink.

I tried this same move against Honda in my other PBEM and got my arse smacked well and good.  With Luskan I think that I have a good chance as I have learnt from my mistakes against Honda.  Yes I have been watching Luskan's moves verwy verwy cwosly and noted that he didn't have his eye on the ball in the Marshalls.  I am loaded for bear and have also loaded a VERWY balanced defensive force (read ****e loads of CD units)  there is NO WAY that ratbrain will be taking THESE islands back without being gutted.

FIGJAM !

Maps will be posted later.

Ohhhhhh, nice one, Raver! I doubt that Luskan can reinvade before April 1942, when the Japanese invasion bonus is gone. Should be bloody, indeed...

But also congrats to Luskan for a successful early invasion of Java.
Can't wait so see how things work out!

I'll let Raver post the result from this turn.  He's good, got to give him that.  I lied about not having any BBs in the area - and believe it or not - I was thrilled they escaped (tried to do a mid ocean intercept - missed, and then weather protected them from Raver's CVs.

Ohhhhhh, nice one, Raver! I doubt that Luskan can reinvade before April 1942, when the Japanese invasion bonus is gone. Should be bloody, indeed...

Thats the idea....he will need at LEAST 10 divisions to retake the place....thats a LOT of jap transports that will get the stuffing knocked out of 'em (and yes I have seen gameplayed this). Given that I will also have mines and aircraft sweeping the seas clean ratbrain is going to have to decide now if it is worth the effort. He might hit me in early march but is going to have to pull his figer out to do it. Nothing like rushing your opponent into doing something.......helps to cause him make mistakes.

You can't let Raver get an airbase into knife fighting range at any stage of the war.  It'll be size 9 with 4 divisions and 200+ B17s before you can blink.

The biggest airfield he can build on and around Kwajalein is 5... Do you have any aircraft stacking rules in your game?

This map is scaring the crap out of most JFboys!

Nice plan and execution Raver. Just reinforces my actions at this time in the game against Capt Ed when I sent a couple ground combat units to the Marshall's and left the air garrison. Not sure if that would of stopped you but might have caused more damage and maybe got a CV.

If you plan succeeds and you get Kwajalein, you will have a nice interconnecting 3xairbase defense system. Bring in some Aussie Beauforts and Luskan will bleed when he comes back.

You have unhinged the whole Japanese defensive perimeter which could be very bad for Japanese ops elsewhere. What will the banana do?

What is wrong with you people? Raver does something stupid and I play the violin a bit in public, and then suddenly "poor Luskan!" & "Nice move Raver" & "Hey, the banana is in trouble now!" etc.  Ye of little faith.

The banana . . . well . . . lied a wee bit in some of his previous posts.  I will now release this top secret fact that will change your view of the above screenies.

KB was never at PM.

KB was on station for the last two turns, and Raver spotted them but did not ID the ships correctly.  They were 2 hexes from Kwaj, waiting for him.  They were hampered by weather for TWO TURNS IN ROW while I had PRIVATE HEART ATTACKS.  Unfortunately instead of smashing the invasion, the invasion TF sailed serenly past KB and landed their troops.

That is bad.  What is good is Raver hadn't realised they were there, and still doesn't.  He will this turn  Unfortunately they were hampered by the weather for one whole air phase, but in the other air phase I found and sank Saratoga.  Raver has another CV or two in the invasion tfs - but I think they'll escape.  What won't escape are the hundreds of transports he's sent into harms way.  I own him now.  I only sank 1 ship with KB, but this and the smashed up Lex will change Raver's game considerably.

My BBs, gambling on the fact that my planes from Kwaj are exhausted from all the transfers aren't going to launch, left Kwaj unprotected to hammer the unescorted tfs at Wotje for excellent result too.  How does he expect to support an airbase that far from any other friendly bases? I'm going to flatten those two islands and leave the us to starve.  He's going to have to try supplying them by submarine!

We'll see what next turn brings.  Hopefully, lots of sunk allied transports, drowned allied soldiers, maybe a few of Raver's capital ships sunk, and fingers crossed, another carrier battle.

Enjoy.

Cpt Harlock: I sent in a base force to Lae, and a squadron of zeroes and put the on LRCAP.  I had 1 BBs, some CAs, and an otherwise naked transport fleet with minesweepers with a division, base force, eng unit, HQ and enough supplies to put PM on the map. Elation was incredibly risky, because I didn't cover it.  I held Elation up to move more Minesweepers into the tf, but that was it.  Mini KB is haunting the aussie coast - running into US CVs would kill it but I'd get my own hits in.

Now this turn, I expect my aircraft at Kwaj (slightly holed) to wreak some proper damage, while KB (which struck the allies from BEHIND - I am between them and Pearl) sits pretty and sinks anything that tries to escape past them.

Now Raver will scatter to the four winds - that is fine - I'll take them out bit by bit.  With Saratoga sunk, and Lex crippled, I no longer need to fear the allied CVs for a few months - half of KB will be a match for all of Raver's CVs - so I can afford to split KB up.  Half can stay at Kwaj and make damned sure no supplies get through to Raver's two forward airfields, and half can . . . erm, go back to Japan.  Yup.  That is what they'll do.

Anyone who believes anything Raver or I post on this forum about future operations is . . . well lets just say I'd love to sell you some real estate.

This operation has been costly for Raver in terms of CVs - 1 sunk and one crippled, and he's lost a couple of thousand men drowned, a CA, a few aux units and half a dozen transports - compared to the number of ships he's sent, he's still come out ahead of what should have happened to him (KB weathered in for two turns! Who would would think that could happen the VERY two turns I needed them most).

At least they sunk a CV first - I'll have a crack at the other CVs now, but expect to only get more transports . . . which is ok too.

Nope........wrong again bananana boy.......I had seen the jap CVs there......and hence the reason for MY Cv to be present.  They are there to do the job of taking away the heat from the invasion force.  Infact that is the ONLY reason that the surface anf Cv units are there.  I couldn't give a monkeys if I loose one or two CVs, BBs, Ca or what ever.  The PRIME reason for them being there is to soak-up the jap response and allow the troops to get ashore.   The fact that I was able to sail such a large group of TFs sooooo close the marshalls without being spotted proves that you were asleep at the wheel.  Regardless of how many ships you now sink the point is that I am ashore and have won the day.   Come and get some boy blunder!

If this was a PDU game, if I was Luskan, I would Helen hammer your bases flat from Kwajalain and then just starve the troops out over time. Anything that keeps you from building up the forts or airfield. But it is a gutsy move.

Panzerjager did the same thing to me, but he took Tarawa and a few other bases in Feb 42 while I was impaled in Java with 90% of the Allied fleet, plus I have lost count of the number of a/c and troops he has poured into Java.

Another turn, another large number of allied ships sunk. Raver is kind of right - but how he expects to get supplies through to those bases . . . I have no idea.

Kwaj was weathered in so no flights, but RADM Onoshi has arrived on the scene with reinforcements, beating a VERY aggressive allied commander back repeatedly (the guy just kept coming back for more, closing the range, getting torpedoed, closing the range, getting torpedoed). RADM Onoshi had a full load of long lances, and polished off the entire enemy surface combat tf (small) I expect something heavier to show up next turn ;)

As for KB, well weather continues to be an issue, but Nagumo knows what to sink in what order. He's taken his time with this, and over the next turn or two KB will sweep in larger circles away from Kwaj to maximise coverage.

Here is a nice summary of what Raver has lost in the last two turns (except for Houston and Boise). There have been a couple of sunk APs and a bunch of sunk AKs, but this is what his combat vessels have lost.

Enjoy.

I had nightmares about what was waiting for me on Java last game - this game I was thrilled to find Raver was going to fight at Singapore - in the apst he's got the aussies out - and if those units had got to Java with plenty of time for R & R, and sit behind a big fort like batavia or Soerbaja . . . well Tobruk springs to mind.

I'll flatten those two bases, but I'm going to take them back - because the longer I spend flattening them, the longer Raver has some shred of the initiative (he knows where some of my forces will be etc).

The alternative is to fight fire with fire and take something he should have been defending. Like Noumea.

Panzer shipped in the 18th brit division and every Allied artillery unit he could find. I have units at just about every base in Java and own not a single one. 4 divisions, 3 heavy brigades.......all just looking for a weakness. But have found not a single one yet. Half my BB's are banged up from surface fights.

I know Luskan and I know that he is just screaming to re-take the initiative.  The idiot talks of taking noumea.....as if I have not factored that in. .
A Raid into NZ might happen but again he would first have to take noumea.  An assault on Australia while possible, is not likely as he knows that I know that such a move would simply be trying to goad a response from me.  Midway might be on the cards, but once again hitting such a target DOES NOT put me on the back foot, and THAT is what Luskan needs to do.

In other news the Sarah gets away scot free !  Buggered if i know what that clown bananana boy is doing but he just let her slip out of reach.  She was a sitting target with her air groups gutted.  Well I am not one to complain.    Lex is safely tucked-up in port at Pearl....mostly float damage which repairs quicker than sys damage, but she will still be out of the fight for a few months.
