AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 02/10/42 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Coastal Guns at Lae [New Guinea], 56,90, firing at TF 43 TF 43 troops unloading over beach at Lae [New Guinea], 56,90 I'll attack tomorrow and should outnumber the defenders by about 6 to 1 so should take Lae with minimum fuss. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TF 18 encounters mine field at Balikpapan [Borneo] (31,64) Japanese Ships DE Asagao -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ASW attack at 20,59 Japanese Ships PC Ch 17 PC Ch 16 PC Ch 15 PC Ch 14 PC Ch 13 PC Ch 12 PC Ch 11 PC Ch 10 PC Ch 6 PC Ch 5 PC Ch 3 Allied Ships SS SHCH113, hits 3 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sub attack near Kendari [Celebes] at 33,71 Japanese Ships AK Myoko Maru, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage Allied Ships SS SHCH107 Japanese ground losses: 19 casualties reported -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TF 94 encounters mine field at Kwajalein [Nanyo] (81,84) Japanese Ships AP Kobe Maru, Mine hits 1, on fire Japanese ground losses: 175 casualties reported -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on Shikuka [Sakhalin] , at 74,31 Japanese aircraft Me 264 Angel x 35 Japanese aircraft losses Me 264 Angel: 1 destroyed, 10 damaged Allied ground losses: 30 casualties reported Guns lost 2 Airbase hits 9 Airbase supply hits 8 Runway hits 35 In total 3 x Me-264s were downed today. Still, they managed to secure 8 supply hits which are, in the current context, priceless. In any case I am producing over 100 per month now so can lose 3 per day, for a short while, without any significant deterioration of my striking power. I have also saved up more than 30 produced Me-264s and am planning to convert my first 30-bomber group tomorrow. That ought to tempt the Allied fighters back into the air over Shikula. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on Yangku [Cent China] , at 51,29 Japanese aircraft Ki-43-I Oscar x 25 Me-109E-4 Mike x 20 Ki-32/30 Mary/Ann x 51 Ki-48-I Lily x 49 Ki-21-II Sally x 25 No Japanese losses Resources hits 34 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on Hengchow [S China] , at 44,37 Japanese aircraft A5M4 Claude x 6 Ki-32/30 Mary/Ann x 18 No Japanese losses Resources hits 3 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on Wenchow [S China] , at 50,41 Japanese aircraft Ki-51 Sonia x 60 No Japanese losses Resources hits 8 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on Nanning [S China] , at 40,38 Japanese aircraft Ki-43-I Oscar x 23 Ki-21-II Sally x 53 Japanese aircraft losses Ki-21-II Sally: 1 destroyed, 3 damaged Resources hits 6 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on Madicen [Java] , at 22,65 Japanese aircraft Ki-48-I Lily x 36 Japanese aircraft losses Ki-48-I Lily: 1 destroyed, 2 damaged Allied ground losses: 3 casualties reported Airbase hits 5 Airbase supply hits 4 Runway hits 25 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on Angeles/Clark [PH] , at 43,51 Japanese aircraft Ki-27 Nate x 19 Allied aircraft A-20B Boston x 54 B-25C/D Mitchell x 22 Blenheim I x 3 F.K.51 x 3 Hudson IV x 8 Martin 139/B-10 x 6 IL-4C/DB-3F x 6 Japanese aircraft losses Ki-27 Nate: 5 destroyed, 1 damaged Ki-32/30 Mary/Ann: 25 destroyed Ki-48-I Lily: 3 destroyed Ki-21-II Sally: 2 destroyed Allied aircraft losses A-20B Boston: 4 damaged B-25C/D Mitchell: 2 damaged Martin 139/B-10: 2 damaged Japanese ground losses: 37 casualties reported Guns lost 3 Airbase hits 5 Airbase supply hits 4 Runway hits 33 For some reason my bomber crews decide that today is not, after all, a good day to fly and sit in their shacks drinking "skinny lattes" while the Allies range overhead. Well, I'll hang in for another day since all I'm losing are obsolescent trainers and it may draw the Allied bombers in and give me an opportunity to inflict some more losses. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on Aparri/Tuguegarao , at 45,49 Japanese aircraft D4Y1-C Judy x 2 E8N2 Dave x 41 No Japanese losses Runway hits 1 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on Batan Islands [PH] , at 46,47 Japanese aircraft Ki-51 Sonia x 33 Ki-15II/C5M2 Babs x 6 No Japanese losses Airbase hits 2 Airbase supply hits 3 Runway hits 17 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on TF at 42,49 Allied aircraft B-26A Marauder x 27 Beaufort VII x 3 Allied aircraft losses B-26A Marauder: 1 destroyed, 10 damaged Beaufort VII: 2 damaged Japanese Ships CL Nagara, Torpedo hits 1, on fire DD Natsushio DD Maikaze CL Sendai, Bomb hits 1 DD Hatsushimo DD Nowaki DD Hatsuharu 27 B26s eh? The attack did not proceed as expected and the paratroops were all hunted down and shot overnight. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BB New Mexico, PG Jumna and 6 merchants slip beneath the waves during the course of the day. This takes Allied shipping losses since the beginning of the month to 60 ships. US Navy shipping losses are running quite high and I just don't see how sufficient supplies can have been landed to survive a concentrated Japanese aerial assault on Shikula. In addition I also have a 1000 AV guard force in the Home Islands to repel airborne invaders and 1000 AV at Toyohara with another 900 AV due to arrive over the next 10 days. Below you can see the situation in the Petropavlovsk, Etorofu Jima, Shikula triangle... 58 enemy ships are confirmed either spotted or docked in that area and I plan to collect most of them, pushing the number of Allied ships sunk well over 500.
