As a Civil War junkie I've been anticipating a real ACW game for years. Before I purchase the game I need to know if I'll be able to run it on my computer. I hve a 1.7 processor but only 256 RAM. Do I need to upgrade before I can play? Will the game play if all battles are simulated?

Game Requirements

  • Minimum System Requirements
  • Windows 2000 / XP
  • 500 MHz CPU
  • 1GB RAM (512MB for low animation)
  • 32 MB Video Card, DirectX 7 Compatible
  • Sound Card (Windows XP Compatible)
  • 1GB Hard Drive space
  • CD-Rom
  • DirectX 7+
  • Adobe® Flash® Player 8+ (for intro screen only)
That's the recommended system specs from the matrix guys.  I would suggest you upgrade to 512 or 1 gig if nothing else to get better preformance out of your rig.

Eric will chime in if I'm wrong, but I don't think you can play the game -- and even if you are able to, it will be VERY slow. One of our testers tried it on a 256MB computer (I don't know the processor speed) and he couldn't get past the options menu.

Yeah, I remember when that happened. Get some more RAM, you're letting your machine and yourself down with only 256Mb...

I'm running FoF with 512mb Ram with a 2.8ghz P4, 128mb nVidia GeFroce Ti4200.

I'm using full aimation (ie: normal settings) and the game loads, intros, scrolls and plays fine. Haven't played enough to feel for the reported bugs. Closing the game takes a long while. Must be caching.

I feel that I will need to go 1G Ram or switch to Low Animation to play this game properly. The later is the cheaper option - but you will need at least 512mb Ram or your computer may freeze up. Even W@W 2 is giving me "virtual memory" warnings.

Once Windows Vista comes out, I'll be buying a 2G Ram beast - although from what I'm hearing, that config will be standard for Vista's operations next year.

My advice - buy a new PC next year and wait for this game's bugs to be fixed.
