I'm sure somebody is doing something with the NFL Rosters, much the same as I've plugged in the CFL rosters into my MaxFB.

The trouble is that importing teams from one league to another is not a feature that's officially supported, so if there's any problem, neither Dave nor Matrix can offer any help.

I've tried porting rosters from one league to another, and I can't get them to work. I've checked the database and made the appropriate adjustments to have the new league recognize the old rosters, but the rosters just won't populate.

This might be something that might be supported down the road, but for right now, it's an excercise in futility.

I've been able to backup my rosters before resetting a league
I copy everything on the players table except the ID number and put it back after I reset the league. For changing them to different leagues you would probably need to leave out the league ID also but the teams would have to be numbered the same.

It would be probably be better to make the whole league mdb file tho

I tried it with open office but don't know how to select multiple columns on it :(

Is there any update on this?  Whats the point of all these great historical and modern NFL jerseys that ppl have made if we dont have the rosters that we can import to go with them?  Anyone know if David or Matrix are working on the functionality necessary to import rosters for a future patch?  This really limits what MFB could be imo...basically we can only use teams that we make.  I personaly dont have time to create all 32 NFL teams, but would absolutely love to see them in this game given the flexibility it offers.  I'm really surprised that this is not more heavily talked about and incorporated yet, so we could see the struttdaddy's of the world churning out those rosters like in that OTHER football game (whose name won't be mentioned here)

This was the last news
http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=1361580

I think someone needs to make a global player editor first like gelat's utility for fbpro to speed up the process

So I take it that making an NFL roster for this game is a difficult task, based on how these threads have basically closed.....

It is difficult if one wants to do more than just plug in names.  Even that is a challenge.

The easiest way to do this is to edit the names in the Players table in the Maindata file.  One can try to match the best player to best player by team or edit a few of the superstars on each team.

Matrix Games cannot officially support it at this time, so it would have to be a personal player project.

NFL rosters could be done, it just would take some patience and a team effort. Look at what has been done with MVP 2005 for the PC. Every year a group of fans release an updated set of rosters, schedules, unis, stadiums, etc, so it can be done.

I'm really surprised there's not more of an effort on this front.  If I'm not mistaken, Max-FB represents the last bastion of realistic PC football simulation in production.  So in other words, for those of us who want to use real NFL teams/players in a realistic football setting where performance is not based on finger-dexterity, but rather how players actually play (and play-calling, of course), we're out of luck.  Surprising, as I bet there are a lot out there who fall into this category.

VPNFL was mentioned.  That was quite popular if I remember correctly.  Something like that for this game would be similarly coveted, I would think. In the past, there seemed to be plenty of contributors with customized sets of current and past NFL teams and rosters.

I would think that the uniforms and graphics would be available at least.  Of course, I say this and I haven't done any of the work myself, but I guess I will if that's what it comes down to.  Not a lot of free time but it would be worth it.

Could this have anything to do with stringent copyright protection, so that even a fan site like fb-max.com would be legally in trouble for posting Maximum Football versions of NFL teams?

Ever since fbpro went down in flames everything went down in flames with it and the only thing we had to look forward to was text simulators. Right now this community is divided. You have the Text Simmers, The Madden Community, and the people who still play fbpro exclusively.

I think little by little this community will grow

I wouldn't think so considering there are rosters available for Madden that were not the ones that came with the game. Also there is the example of MVP I mentioned above. I think as long as it is a free thing offered by people you are legally in the clear. Obviously Matrix couldn't host anything, but beyond that I don't see why a site like maxfb couldn't.

I think at this time the game has some bugs that prevent adequate game play. Once 20 is released I think everyone will get pumped up. ( I read that there is someone who is close to cracking the code to edit madden graphics. If this comes first, it may have an impact on this game)

Cracking Madden code surely will NOT be a factor.

Latest word is that 2.0 will be available befoe March 2008 or the developer will be disapointed.

That was a follow up to my post regarding a question from a community member using that date.

Note that my post used a funny smiley, because March is so far away, and 2.0 is almost ready.

Let's just say the update will be ready prior to March.

Read between the lines.

2.0 will be available soon.

The only Madden crack that would excite me is to edit league size and schedules.

One of the main things about MaxFB that appeals to me is the ability to play something other than the NFL.
I luv football, but not necessarily the NFL.

Well the only NFL football sim that I have at the moment is Head Coach 2006, but I'll  stiil pick this one up when 2.0 comes out whether a roster is ever made or not because it looks like a better game, and HC is no longer supported.......

I doubt anyone is at this point, for a couple of reasons.
1.)Its a huge undertaking. Name, height, weight, skin color, and so on. Then figuring out the ratings. For 1000+ players.
2.)I would wager that most Max users are content with their own creations. I think that, among other things is what draws most of us here. Im the type that even when I did play Madden, it was with fictional teams. Im not a huge Madden fan, but if I wanted to play the NFL, thats where I would be.

However, I think that what the Max community needs is to settle down, and hopefully the 2.0 will do that. If this is the end of the structural changes, we may see people start putting the time and effort into utilities. Max can be all that FootballPro was and more.

All this being said, if 10 or 15 people volunteered to pass around a league file and do a couple teams each, we could knock it out in short order.

Bear with me on this as I do not have the game yet, but are the fictional players in the game modeled after the pros? For example, in earlier versions of Out of the Park Baseball, there was no question who each "fictional" player was by simply looking at the ratings. So, for example, you knew that  third baseman Richard Pope on the American League NY team was actually Alex Rodriquez. Editing the players therefore was a tedious, but not a very difficult task. Is the same model used here or are the players stats randomly generated?

Thanks

The players generated by the game are completely random.

Lucas718 is correct. The 3 stock leagues are created, and the players generated, just as anyone staring a new league would do it.

I am going to cut and paste these rosters into a database. Then seperate them by position then cut and paste the attributes from that position for each positional file then put it back into a file that will work from the game. The attributes will be random.
If someone else would like to fix that part just do the super stars booste there attributes to make it closer to the NFL.Could make it into a team effort.I can`t do the attributes myself well to honest don`t know enough about the NFL.

The only problem I see with those rosters VCFL is the player's names. You need to find a website where the rosters have the player's first and last names seperated just like in Access.

Its more of a pain then a problem just cut the last name from the field and paste it into the last name field. Then copy the whole last name field then put it into the jersey name field

Good luck, here's to plowing through it. I tell you I was fortunate enough with my NCAA project to get a spreadsheet that already had the names seperated. I've still had to go in and convert the position to a number, and when 2.0 comes out I'll have to redo that too. That was over 8000 players. Also converting the height to inches is time consuming. I'm working on the attributes now. Which I have a system for I'll share if interested.

Too Bad we couldn't just find 32 people with 32 different favorite teams. Each one would only do their fav team, then the best part of all.. We could share it.
