Incidentally, my siege of Fort Henry has been going on for weeks and weeks. Its defenses are down to about 25 or 30, so I hope it won't be much longer. But ugh! I'm gonna have to move faster than this if I want to win this war.

Trouble is, I'm strapped for resources. The CSA is swimming in Christmas gifts from the Europeans. All I got in my stocking was a lump of coal. Well, a few lumps. Iron is the one thing I have in abundance. But I'm hurting on money and labor and manpower. New York used to pump out more than 20 gold, but with fewer men, it produces less (or so I gather). FoF experts, look at my City Screen and tell me: have I stripped my manpower resources too low? Do "men" grow back eventually?

And here's a look at my Nation overview, indicating the anemic state of my economy. If anyone has advice on how to improve things, I'm all ears. :)

And finally, one more embarrassing defeat for the home team. Shepley, stuck in the snows of New England, does not make it to Brooklyn in time to stop a fast CSA siege of the city there. And we're talking fast: four weeks or so. So the Confederate flag now flies over Brooklyn, New York. If anyone else playing the Union versus the AI has lost Brooklyn, my morale officer would like to hear from you now!

Grotius, every spring your men should "grow" back.

Grotius,

The situation looks so strange to me I had a good chuckle. Confederate troops in Boston! But From your standpoint it seems like this turn of events(European interference) maybe too much for the U.S. to come back from. I don't want to be too pessimistic because you have too keep fighting on.

Its great following your AAR keep it up I'm learning by following.

My real life has started up again, hence the slow-down in my AAR, but I managed to sneak in a few turns this evening. My plan is to retake Brooklyn, wear down the resistance at Fort Henry, take Tennessee, and march to Atlanta. I'm still playing in a rather "seat of the pants" mode, trying to recover from my early stumbles. :)

The trouble is, I don't seem to have learned the secret of sieges yet. I'm just now bringing siege artillery to bear at both sieges; I hope that will help. In the meantime, a couple of months have gone by, and Brooklyn is still in CSA hands.

And it's much the same story in Fort Henry, which I've been besieging for months. I wear it down to 28 or so, then it repairs; rinse and repeat. I've just moved in some siege artillery; I hope that helps.

In the meantime, both sides have been maneuvering a lot. I pushed into Fredericksburg, and while I haven't taken any forts, I have provoked a reaction from the CSA that's allowed me to move forward in Tennessee and, I hope, western Virginia. Of course, I cleverly forgot to take screenshots of all this; I'll post some shortly. In the meantime, here's my initial foray into Fredericksburg.

Sometimes You Just Can't Win!
I just finished my first game, a little watered down with the rules (to get used to the game engine) and lost as the North.
I captured
Arkanasas (minus Little Rock/White River)
Texas
Louisiana (minus New Orleans, Shreveport)
Alabama (minus Mobile)
Tennessee (Minus Memphis and river forts)
Mississippi
Florida (except St. Augustine)
Georgia (except Augusta, Milledgeville both under siege)
South Carolina (Charleston was under siege)
North Carolina (minus state cap, sea provinces)
Virginia (minus Norfolk, which was under siege)
AND
I
STILL
LOST!
Maybe I'll get 'em in the next game!

Actually, I'm still playing! I played a few turns that I haven't posted here yet, and I still plan to finish this game. I might not resume til the new patch arrives, though.

Yes, I lost Brooklyn and etc. as the Union after I had annihilated a couple of invading CSA/British armies too, all to no avail. Then the French were also starting to attack me in the southwest, so I threw in the towel. I never played with European intervention again, as if I wanted a Victorian Era World War I would have bought another game. That was in the pre v1.23 Patch game. Never again!!!

The new patch will break your old save files, though.
