Sorry for being such a newb but how exactly does the cut and paste work for plane side art in the .bmp file?

I love all the new artwork but I'm unsure how to add or modify the .bmp without mucking it up for the program to read it.

I can certainly cut and paste new planes but does order and placement matter?

I figure each plane has to be in a certain location in the .bmp file in order for the program to read it.

You are correct...

You have to replace a plane with the same plane or it will show the wrong plane 'in-game'.

Others...like CHS for example...have reassigned the graphics in the database so their plane sides pallet works just in their mod but not in stock.
