Oh, there'll be nothing "quick" about making a full-map AE mod. TTMW took a loooooong time to build, and it's positively minuscule...

Really good work on the Alt_Naval IJN vessels Gary!!

I think the first thing I'm going to do with AE is create a scenario implementing the Alt Naval IJN. No other changes. I hope you don't mind if I steal these.

Thanks, "steal" all you want. I made them for everyone to use. I was going to create a mod using just the Alt_Naval stuff myself but if you make one then it will save me a lot of work.

I like the idea of modifying just the IJN navy and nothing else. If you implement it I'll play it.

Not sure if you folks can help me but i'll give it a shot.
In my games against the AI I have experienced a strange glitch if you will.
During air to naval combat or naval combat I cannot see the Japanese ships.
Would it be possible to substitute a mod or reload an available Japanese ship art folder and see if that works?
I only experience this after I have installed the 1.804 patch.
I have re-installed the entire game and patchs several times without any luck.

That is strange... My first impulse was to say this is a memory issue, but I'm pretty sure in your case you have enough. Are you using the stock art set? Maybe try loading the standardized sets from this thread which I believe are located at Spooky's.

I've seen this same phenomenon happen before to others here on the forum, so I'm sure someone will sound off soon. It's never happened to me, so unfortunately I do not remember the resoulution. Have you searched the threads for this particular issue?

In a weird kind of way, I think it may be a memory issue, I have plenty of memory, 2 Gb and a really good workhorse CPU (2.4 Ghz dual core intel cpu) but I may have some spyware/malware that is eating it up.
For instance, before when I first had the chance to use this PC I could defrag my hard drive, run a virus scan and play ANY game at the same time, now when I just run a simple spyware program and just surf, the PC seems VERY sluggish.
It may be time to re-install windows and start over.
Internet can be a boon and a scourge for PCs.
No I have not done a search, guess it's time to do one.
thanks Tom.

Yes, that does sound like something is hogging your memory. Unless someone posts a recommendation in the near future, it may be that a re-install of Windows may be in order. I know its a pain, but if its been a while since the last re-install, its probably a good idea.

I know its a bit much, but I have 3 HDs with XP residing on one exclusively in case I run into spyware/virus issues. Makes it much easier to wipe and re-install the OP without having to do everything else.

Hi TOM,

beautiful work as always! Does this go to the AE project or will this be up for download before AE comes out?

PS - perhaps a little bit more colour depth won't hurt, but of course it runds the risk of splitting up the ship's outlines altogether.... :)

The more I look at them the more I like'em. I've seen many cool ship side art here but IMHO this is the best so far. The only thing I could point out is that Iowa might need catapults (it could happen that they are there but the camo just hides them.

Any chance to get the files that are already done? :)

Can't do it. Really sorry, because we have soooo much more in the box, but Matrix wants to limit pre-release art work.

We are probably even more frustrated than you guys. We're chompin at the bit to get this stuff out. Soon as AE releases, ya'll can expect a deluge, swear to God.

We have maybe 15 MB of "release" art, and I'm sure we got maybe double that for all the alternatives. Woof !!

Hi JWE,

no problem at all, I can understand this very well, it just was not clear if it is part of AE or an "after-market" kit :D.

Hmm that 15MBs+ alternatives sounds very cool, so it is well worth the wait.

Thanks for making things clear anyway.

Cheers

It's actually both. The 'release' art for AE is from TomLabel, BigB, and me, mostly them. After AE releases, Tom and Brian and I have a "bucket load" of after market stuff. AE has some of the same constraints as WiTP did; art for the nominal player. Not a bad thing, but somewhat limiting for the artists. So we got together into a collective and will offer a "ton" of after market stuff.

We gots a bit map list, by class, and by upgrade, that would be useful to modders. Soon as AE releases, we'll post it.

Ciao.

hi,

im going to dabble with a bit of artwork to pass the time until AE is here, and need a bit of help with the following:

1. Is the artwork going to be presented in exactly the same way as stock - ie a bmp number and associated pic

2. When i have an image i want to use it is usually in a white box - how do i make all that transparent so i just have the ship outline to transfer to the required background

3. And ive only got ms paint - so dont laugh

1. I believe that is indeed the case.

2. If you are using mspaint, then check under the 'image' heading and deselect draw opaque. Then past your ship image into the background file and the white background will not show.

3. Try using paint.NET, it's free and I use it for most of my art stuff. http://www.getpaint.net/
