Can't get game to run. Freezes game and PC at game-selection screen.
Crown of Glory works fine, so... what's with Forge?

It sounds like memory might be the issue. If you've got less than 1GB RAM you'll probably have to use the low-anim, no-sound mode. Instructions for achieving that are also found over in the game's forum.

I just downloaded FoF. I have Win Zip. When I try to extract the downloaded file I get the error message

"File cannot open: It does not appear to be a valid archive. If you downloaded this file try downloading it again"

What gives?

If it helps I bought WinZip after I downloaded the game.

Chris,

Totally different issue, I already responded to you in the thread you created.

Ontology,

As Gil suggested, you should try Low Animation mode. When you say it freezes at the game selection screen, do you mean that you get all the way to the part of the game where you are choosing your local game options or at the initial game menu where you click to 'Play Forge of Freedom'?

You should also check your Flash installation if it's freezing at the former spot as that's where it first tries to play the Flash background.

Regards,

- Erik

Hail colleagues!

Just won't create new topic.

Can I change game screen resolution?
In shipping game, printed manual refers to which game version?

Thank you.

No, screen resolution can't be changed. The manual is for the released version of the game.

Right there on the Game Menu screen (the one you get when you DON'T do a quick start).

PS: My new compooter I put together actually works, although I did have the power-on and reset wires reversed for awhile.

Yeah, it's there -- just look at the options available from the Start menu.

No doubt it is.

Now that I have gotten my poor old tooth recapped today after the Martian root canal of a few weeks ago and terrible infection, I can get those new bifocals next week. I will be a new man again, with great vision!!!
