Hello All,

After Dale's trivia questions I thought I'd introduce a "Platform Photo ID Test" series. I've been working on some display related things for the HUD3 and decided I could make use of the images here to bend your minds a little. I'll start off with resonably easy "tests" to encourage EVERYBODY to give it a try.

I'll post an initial image, that at first only reveals part of the platform I would like an ID on. I'll slowly reveal the images until we receive a correct answer or I show the whole photo and provide the answer due to zero correct responses.

There are no prizes but I'll keep a "ladder" of successful responses and the leader will obviously have bragging rights around the forum. I'll award 2 points for a correct answer, and possibly split the points for close guesses etc. If competing numbers of forum members don't take up the opportunity I'll call an end to it after we've run a few rounds.

GUIDELINES

1. The winner of the previous round is asked to remove themself from the competition for 1 round.

2. Unless otherwise stated at the commencement of a round contestants are limited to three (3) attempts at nominating the correct answer.

3. Long time or what could be considered "expert" users within the community are asked to compete in a spirit of inclusiveness. My intention is to run a friendly comp where everybody (yes even really new Harpooners) has an opportunity to compete in a friendly environment and doesn't feel overwhelmed while competing.

4. A brief explanation of why you think the pic is whatever platform you nominate would be appreciated to further community participation and the education process in general.

5. Always remember to Have Fun.

6. An ineligible player can PM the answer to me to score a bonus point.

Ok guys here's the first of the Platform Photo ID tests. The initial photo reveals the stern of the vessel I'm looking for an ID on. The photo was taken from the periscope of a SSBN. I'll reveal more of the photo shortly. To win correctly ID the class of vessel.

Ok seeing how Dan just knocked that one off in short order, I'll make this a little harder (I hope). This is part of an aircraft that's seen service in a host of air forces and naval air arms worldwide. I swear Dan if you get this as quickly mate I'll start posting photos of rivets...

Ok So the HHQ guys want to dominate the ladder...

Well done Sunburn, you're spot on with the platform, now I wished I'd asked for the model as well

Ok I'll add some rules for the comp, stuff like winners are ineligible for the next round, number of guesses allowed etc. If anyone would like to make suggestions regarding this please feel free.

Darren

Not being hopeful of anything testing anyone out anymore, we'll move back to ships. This is part of a Russian ship... I'd like the Type CG/DDG/FFG etc and also the Class name.

Could it be a French Military transporter? Airbus 320? The French use the flag instead of the cocarde for non-camouflage painted aircraft.

Taitennek, part of the answer is correct, that is the type of aircraft - transport, sorry no points for that mate. Here's the next part of the aircraft in question:

That last cockpit pic is the giveaway. C-130 in the old-style markings of the Australian AF.

More points for Sunburn, must be all the work he's put into his Harpoon Encyclopedia paying off here. He was right, it's an early 80's RAAF C-130. I'd guess that it was an "E" model, ok I'll look for something else to test you out, then I have to leave the PC for about 90 mins, so you'll have some time to think about your responses.

Ok on to Round 5 and I'll move back to ships. I have a bonus operating here with an extra point available.

CLUE: Operated by NATO member country.

REQUIRED: I'd like the class name, vessel type, and operating Nation.

BONUS: 3 pts awarded if all 3 pieces of required information are provided.

INELIGIBLE: Sunburn.

I'm not going to accept blame being placed on the admin of the "competition" just because we have a member of the Dutch "cafe" scene taking guesses .

Nice try Taitennek

Ok so while I've been out we seem to have reached a point where nobody is prepared to take a stab at guessing any of the 3 required answers. You don't need to get all three right to gain points if you think you know any of them give it a stab and you may pick up a point.

Here's the next section of the ship for Round 5:

Nah stumped. Reckon its a french style turret with ASROC. Vague possibility of Baleares class, but the turret doesn't look right.

No Prize Flank, not a French turret although from a country geographically close. Nothing for the Baleares class either. Two attempts left mate.
