It does seem rather depressing doesn't it? I've given up asking, personally.

And got more involved with the HPS Campaign games instead. I still hate their graphics, but various mods have pretty much fixed that.

I'll still buy the whole BG set if it ever gets released though. I have that kind of loyalty to the project, but we had better see some real improvements after all this waiting... and not just a repackaging of the originals with the 32 bit patches incorporated!

Note: I would have bought the entire series just to get a clean install disk with all updates... nothing added... nothing improved... just basic BattleGround with the 32 bit upgrades. If that is all we get after this incredibly long delay, I will definitely be disappointed.

If that's it then they could have done it in a week as a download.

Your right Lance.
It seems longer than a year for some reason though?

I believe it was October 2005 when they acquired the rights. Starting to have doubts it will ever see the light of day.

I understand for the Campaign Series that they are working on this on their own time, which means they are putting a lot more into it then they will probally ever get back, I just asked a question got no response, I was hopping to get someones attention.

The lack of response or any mentions of updates speaks volumes. I predict this project is dead in the water.

Well I love the old Bg games. I wouldn't upgrade to Vista simply because I still play them. A lot. John Tiller is a God and many hours of my life are devoted to Him. Mostly the Napoleonics. I own every title however. All I ask of any rerelease is that they come with the Tiller Upgrade workable with Vista. I feel however this is unlikely as there may be legal issues involved with that. I certainly wouldn't play without the Upgrades unless the engine has suitable modifications.

It was the stagnation of Bg games that encouraged me to try out HPS and, graphics issue aside, the engine is in many ways much improved.

The problem is that any improvements in the Bg engine are likely those that are already present in HPS games so again there are legal issues here. Any AI script is never going to be as challenging as playing another person by email games so personally I'd not waste time on that.

Isn't it about time that Matrix at least gave an update on this game ? Or do they not bother reading the forums ?

I agree. It is frustrating for me to look at the other games Matrix will be releasing and seeing that questions that people post are being answered, if not promptly, then fairly regularly. If this project has been put on the back-burner then just tell us that. I would disappointed but would understand a message to the effect "hey guys sorry, but due to other commitments yada yada...don't expect this product anytime soon." I know part of my frustration comes from the fact I am looking forward to this product so bad. But after following the posts over this game so long, I am sorely disappointed that we seem to have been orphaned.

Indeed it would be nice for somebody to answer. I hate feeling ignored. A simple "sorry for the delay, some months away yet" would suffice.

Gentleman (Mr. Heath, et al.):

As a loooong-time customer (just check my SSN's you'll see), I must object to the consternation you're now causing Mr. Moss (I never realized until just now how Dickensian that is).

GIVE HIM THE UPDATE HE CRAVES.

Or my French soldiers will suffer for it.

That is all,

Jim

Perhaps if we all keep leaving a regular message someone from Matrix might (just might) deign to have a look at what all the activity is about on this forum.
Not holding my breath though !

At last !
Thanks Eric.
I guess all the guys just want to know where the games are up to.
As someone else said, if we could be given some information (even if it's not what we want to hear) that would be better than nothing.
I think there are a lot of people out there who want to see this release.
Peter

Hi Guys

Sorry for the delay and the silence.  We are havng some issues getting this to work the way we want to.  My plans for this re-release is not going as I had planned.  It now seems as if it may not be possible.  If we can't get this to a state that I feel happy with we will simple re-release the whole series as a bundles packs that will work on either Vista/XP.

We are pretty close with the Campaign Series now and this one will follow one way or another.

David

Thanks for the info David.
At least we now know a little bit more - even if it's not looking too good !
Can you give us any idea of a timescale when the games (in whatever format) might be ready ?
Perhaps you could also keep us regularly updated - it would keep the troops happy !

Peter

As much as I loved playing BG games, there is only so much you can play the same few battles. Has anyone considered, instead of re-releasing BG series, expanding the Campaign Series system to include Napoleonic/ACW with all the editing benefits it brings? BG battles could be used as scenarios for Napoleonic series. The terrain scale is the same, and some of the graphics might be reusable. Ultimately expansion of Campaign Series over other periods can provide almost universal game platform.

Thanks for the update David.

When you say :-

"We are very close in releasing the the Campaign Series and thne we get the Battleground games out."

Are we talking months here for the Campaign series and then + months for Battleground ?

God willing we are looking at days like this week.  Battleground I would say by the end of June.

Thank you David so much for the updates. I know we all have been pretty antsy as of late and I for one am appreciative of you jumping on and letting us know what is going on. I think all of us, when we see an old game that was so close to our hearts, we turn into 10 year old boys on Christmas Eve and we want our presents yesterday.

Well if that's the case, some updated screen shots would be nice. The ones on the website are atrocious. I don't really know this series, so some info on it's game website would be nice.
