In another thread (Ships) there are some references of allied CLs respawning. According to the mannual this can´t happened.
As Mike Solli appointed:
Mannual:
"There are several instances in which replacement ships will be provided as reinforcements if a ship is sunk during the game. Replacement ships are generated if:

1. An American CV is sunk prior to 1944 will be replaced by an Essex-class CV.
2. An American or Australian CA that is sunk prior to 1944 will be replaced by a Baltimore-class CA or a Cleveland-class CL. The replacement class is chosen at random.
3. A minesweeper of any navy that is sunk will be replaced by a similar minesweeper.

Whenever a replacement ship is created, it will be placed in the reinforcement list and given an arrival time of around 550 days from the date the original ship was sunk."

Is this wrong? For me it´s important: I wan´t to know if the ships I sunk are coming back as CA or are finally gone...
Thanks everyone,

Max.

This is correct

Is there a limit on the number of ships that re-spawn? It is quite feasable for the allies to lose 20+ CA and CL in 1942 alone. Surely there should be a limit on this?

If you read carefully you should note that only the sunken CAs will come back: either as a CA or CL.

As to the second question; the US never got up to 100% mobilization during the war and numerous ships were cancelled when the war ended. I am not sure that such a limit would be historically accurate. A Japanese victory/"stalemate with benefits" due to Allied soldier/sailor/marine KIAs might have been possible if the war had continued but one based on wearing down physical resources is not.

There probably is a limit (altho I don't know what it is).

Historical Allied cruiser losses in 1942 and 1943

5x USN CA
3x RN CA (no respawn in WitP)
1x RAN CA

2x USN CLAA (I don't -think- these respawn in WitP)
1x USN CL
2x RDN CL (no respawn in WitP)
1x RAN CL

Frankly, if the USN/RN have lost 20+ cruisers, they're probably going to be up against an auto-victory by Japan; in which case it won't matter if they were to respawn in 1944, because the game will be over.

Thanks niceguy! I´ve read severals threads correcting the mannual in some aspects of the game, I thought this was another of such mistakes.

But still have players with CLs respawn... lucky for the japanese there are only a few of them...

I always thought that the manual was correct and that CLs did not respawn.

Just checked my current game - I lost the Boise and Marblehead in the DEI and both are now on the reinforcement list as CA and CL, now about 450 days out. THIS IS A SURPRISE. As this game is a Mod i'm wondering if the slots have got moved around and those two classes now fall into the 'respawn' area of the database ??????

It happens. I have the Marblehead coming back in my mod game, and no slots were scrambled there (from stock). It's confirmed...

Sorry, I misread the quote. I went back and looked and sure enough it says CAs respawn and not "Cruisers". I think it is correct to say "Cruisers" respawn.

The database has empty slots labeled for respawn. Under the US CVs, there are 12 empty slots after the slot that says "Lost CV respawn area". There are 14 slots for lost CAs and 16 for lost CLs. The Allied MSW respwn area is 177 slots long.

Doesn't matter. Respawn may occur in any empty slot of the database. The respawn areas were only left blank to prevent modders from using up all slots.

I was under the impression that Allied and Japanese respawned MSWs shared the same slots and after the slots were gone, no more MSWs respawned. In theory, one side could use up all the slots.

At least that's what I read on a thread.

>Hey, what are you complaining about. Sinking a cruiser gives a lot of points and you get the chance of sinking them again, and even a third time if you do it quickly. Triple the points for one ship

21 pts - Oh no you can't have that - no proper nouns allowed (at least that a rule I normally use)

That's definately a goof in the manual in 15.1.1 Automatic Ship Replacements (e.g. "respawn")

Both US and Aussie CA/CL/CLAA will return as either CA Baltimore class or CL Cleveland class

Applies to all scenarios where respawn hasn't been specifically disabled...

So I can go purposely sink my Omaha CL's and get a Baltimore or Cleveland in return? Wow, great news indeed :)

As long as you don't mind losing the points, and getting the replacement ship in a year and a half or so...

Taking a 28 point loss to trade in an Omaha for a much better cruiser is well worth 1 1/2 years of waiting time. Especially since I am only in February 1942 in my PBEM.

Its not like Ill send them out alone to the front door of Truk and start broadcasting insults. Group one of them with two flush decks and go and see what I can find :)

Problem is that if that little TF finds some Nells or Bettys, they aren't coming home.

Send them out as bombardment hit an run or as transport escort, either way they will provide some use before being sunk. You know the old trick a better target then the important stuff.
