I'm still amazed that so many folks still use the stock map since Andrew Brown's is so much more accurate and functional.

True. Andrew has done marvellous job!

The reason we choose stock was that Rob felt it was enough of challenge to switch into Japanese side of things so he wanted at least to have familiar map on his side!

Looks like Malaya could fall early? Dont want to give Rob too much time to be as agressive as we know he can be.

Joe: Yeah. It propably will fall a bit too early but to be honest there really is not much to do when he landed at Mersing. In the worst case scenario this battle would already be over.

Game date is 25th of December 1941

Quiet turn. I did not get an screenshot so no piccie from this turn.

Malaya

The Japanese forces manage to get an upper hand at Khota Bharu.

Guam was finally captured by the IJA troops. This was one brave Alamo.

It seems that Rob has splitted his CV's as the houserule states. CV Zuikaku was spotted by allied recon aircraft heading towards Kendari and Timor region!!!

Sorry for the lack of updates. I have been busy RL.

This is an general update of things. No combat reports included. Rob is making some serious efforts around the map.

Game date is 2nd of January 1942

Malaya

IJA has made some serious progress here. Basically my northern army is scattered and beaten up.

I have some 30 000 infantry men at Johore Baru but enemy is bringing in fresh troops everywhere. I doubt I can hold him here so basically I will need to retreat into Singapore soon. That will be the so called last stand at Malaya.

China

IJA has been busy clearing all the guerilla units around the Chinese countryside. No real enemy ground offensives to report yet.

Allthough Rob did move IJA Division into Yenen which was repulsed quite easily.

I still do hold Hong Kong in Southern China.

Central & North Pacific

Australia, NZ & South Pacific

Amboina and Kendari have been invaded. There really is nothing to stop these landings here.

India & Burma

2 IJA Divisions + Tank brigade captured the allied base at Moulmein. I did launch an ground assault here turn before this so Rob did capitalize fully on my mistake.

DEI

Philippines

Rob is wrapping up small bases surrounding the Luzon mainland. No serious efforts are made here by the enemy.

KB did slaugter my LBA fighters last turn so time start reorganize these squadrons.

Here is an screenshot from our scoreboard...

Ouch !! Do Dutch have transport planes in BigB's scen ? If they have, you can at least use air transport from Batavia or Palembang to bring supplies to Singapore (at least little) and prolong the agony...

Sardaukar & Big B: Ouch... Indeed! Yeah.. I have those Dutch aircraft available. These planes are currently busy doing other operations near Java. I doubt the I can hold Singapore into February. Rob has too much firepower in the Malaya Peninsula.

Looking at the bright side though that means he does not have those troops elsewhere!

Game date is 6th of January 1942

Malaya

I have abandoned the base at Johore Bharu. I did not want these troops to retreat towards Singapore so this was the only reasonable thing to do.

IJA will propably capture the crown of British empire before February. Rob has massed so much troops into his operations at Malaya that he is unstoppable.

Central & North Pacific

China

Japanese have now opened the road into Canton. It seems that he marching a full division towards sieged the city. Oh, well I need rethink the situation here soon.

Australia, NZ & South Pacific

It seems that Japanese are about start operations againts Timor. Again nothing I can do to stop him from doing this.

India & Burma

Allied troops are ordered to start moving towards Mandalay. I don't want my troops to retreat into Rangoon where they would be wiped out.

DEI

No action in this theatre. Rob is currently too busy with his Malaya and Philippine adventures.

Philippines

Japanese seem to be unloading more troops into Luzon. No offensive operations to report at the moment. He is propably going to start 2 front assault here. One army will march into Clark Field and another into Manila. Intresting to see how things play out.

Here is an summary of latest events. (No screenshot this time around will post one after next turn though)

Game date is 12th of January 1942

Malaya

Enemy troops have now captured the base at Johore Baru. This means that the only significant allied base is at Singapore. I do expect Rob to start moving his troops there soon.

There are few allied units trapped at Malacca. I could launch an assault here but I doubt it will be succesfull.

China

Japanese army is busy sweeping Chinese Guerilla units. Actually few destroyed units will soon be reborn so Rob is not going to like this at all!  I did warn him that these troops will be back though!

No significant enemy thrust anywhere at China. This suits me just fine and gives me time to build up fortifications and deploy my army troops properly.

There is now additional enemy division at Canton. What Rob does not know is that there will be additional Chinese troops there too.

Central & North Pacific

Australia, NZ & South Pacific

I think that the offensive near Rabaul is about to begin. My intel reports indicate increased enemy activity in the area.

Fine. I do intend to fight him in this area so he better come well prepared.

India & Burma

DEI

This are is peaceful. I think Japanese are still too busy both at Philippines and Malaya.

Allthough CV Zuikaku was spotted near Timor ---> He is definately launching an amphibitious invasion here since why on earth would he bring part of the KB here otherwise.

Philippines

Increased enemy activity near Manila and Clark Field.

I bet my money on the fact that Rob will try a two front assault here within next couple of turns. Let's see how this goes since I do have my troops adequate prepped for their objectives.

Game date is 14th of January 1942

Malaya

Bristish troops surrender to the Japanese near Malacca.

The ground offensive againts Singapore has not started yet. Instead Rob is pounding the base with his airforce.

China

2 IJA divisions manage to seize the base at Wenchow. This is the first base to fall into enemy hands.

Ground combat at Wenchow

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 36313 troops, 430 guns, 5 vehicles, Assault Value = 778

Defending force 11995 troops, 29 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 270

Japanese max assault: 633 - adjusted assault: 296

Allied max defense: 293 - adjusted defense: 147

Japanese assault odds: 2 to 1 (fort level 2)

Japanese Assault reduces fortifications to 1

Japanese ground losses:
286 casualties reported
Guns lost 6

Allied ground losses:
287 casualties reported
Guns lost 2

Central & North Pacific

Australia, NZ & South Pacific

As expected the Southern offensive is slowly getting underway.

Quite a few enemy ships are reported near Timor and there is definately CV cover for these landings available.

Meanwhile IJN appears again at Rabaul.

Naval bombardment of Rabaul, at 61,88

Japanese Ships
DD Sagi
DD Hato
DD Numakaze
DD Namikaze
DD Nokaze
DD Ayanami
DD Hatsuyuki
CL Kitakami
CL Kiso
CA Kako
BB Mutsu

Allied ground losses:
18 casualties reported

Airbase hits 4
Airbase supply hits 8
Runway hits 15
Port hits 1
Port fuel hits 2

Also Rob has started unloading troops into those empty bases at Guinea.

India & Burma

The first bunch of Hurricane fighters is delivered into India.

In Burma the capital of Rangoon is surrounded. This base will fall soon.

DEI

Rob is slowly gaining LBA airfields at Borneo. Definately these actions will support the oncoming invasion of Java.

Philippines

The first enemy troops have entered Manila. Immediate counterstrike is ordered. I think I might be able to throw these troops into retreat.

Rob is still prepping his forces at Clark Field and Manila.

Its amazing how close both of our AAR's/ PBEM in the BigB mod are paralleling each other. I believe the big difference is my use and loss of the US CV's that pulled the KB north. Otherwise he would also be investing in Noumea. I enjoy following your PBEM it helps me reflect on mine.
Keep up the good allied fight.

Yeah. I noticed the agressive use of US CV's on your game. It was not all one sided though and I think you made your opponent a bit scared there!

Thankfully I had time to import some fighters and bombers into New Caledonia. I do have my CV's in sea in undisclosed location at the moment. ...I haven't made up my mind when and where to strike.

We have 2 houserules that do make significant diffrence in CV use. 1) 4+4 rule per hex. 2) The stacking limits of active LBA aircraft. (It is a hard thing to manage sometimes)

Here is an screenshot from KB near New Caledonia. I think I have a one more shot to hit it at least before it has to refuel.

(I did make an huge blunder in this PBEM already. I had forgotten to turn on some reinforcements for "few" ground units! Whooopsss.... )

I do expect another ground assault next turn again since Rob has rested his troops.

Excellent. According to Rob the CV needs more than an paint job! Also I would assume that these kind of action would slow him down a bit too.

Oddly enough no ground offensives again either in Manila nor Clark Field. This suits me and gives me time to build up fortifications.

Rob is however using his airforce very aggressively here and thus trying to consume my supply levels.

Quiet turn. Rob stated that he is satisfied with the progress he is making in diffrent areas.

Intresting to note that I'am too.

I building up my perimeter and lines which are coming along quite nicely.

Just ground combat action at Singapore. It looks like Japanese will soon conquer this jewel of British empire.

Hmmm...I'd have thought that Singapore would have fallen already... Few shock attacks might have done your defenders already. But every day counts to your advantage towards SRA and Burma/India.

True. Unfortunately Singapore did fall on last turn. Meaning that either he will move towards India/Burma, DEI or reinfoce Philippines.

I will combine a report from last turn when the new turn arrives.

I'am glad that I have been able to reinforce New Caledonia and South Pacific in general will soon look good!

Malaya

The fight is over at Malaya peninsula. The british troops at Singapore surrendered to the Japanese on 10th of February 1942.

This leaves enemy a couple of option. A) India/Burma B) DEI or C) Reinforce Philippines.

I would assume that Rob will mostly for option B.

Chinese

The southern city of Pucheng is putting up an brave fight againts superior enemy troops.

Ground combat at Pucheng

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 52716 troops, 682 guns, 6 vehicles, Assault Value = 1109

Defending force 22244 troops, 63 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 574

The new houserule described in the screenhot will put into action next turn.

India & Burma

It seems that Rob is trying to cut off my troops at Mandalay. There is 1 enemy unit trying to sneak towards Myithkina. I have ordered my troops to move accordingly.

The Chinese troops under SEAC have now mostly arrived.

Quiet few days. Rob is definately organizing his forces around the map.

Japanese airforce has been however very active.

Game date is 17th of February 1942

India & Burma

It became obvious that RAF is no match to Japanese Zero fighters. I deployed 3 squadrons of Hurricane fighters into Mandalay and got burned.

Ki-46-II Dinah: 1 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
Hurricane IIb: 10 destroyed, 1 damaged

Hmpf. Definately not good ratio of losses. I propably need to withdraw these fighters which I did not intend to do.

It also became know that the 1st Japanese tank regiment is trying to cut off my troops currently at Mandalay. Defensive measures are put into place in order to deal with this threat.

DEI

Increased activity here in past few days. Palempang was bombed heavily and enemy troops landed at Tarakan.

I think Rob has decieded to concentrate bulk of his Malaya army into DEI. I guess he is not too pleased on his oil reserves.

Other areas have been relatively quiet. IJA continues to bomb my positions at Luzon. China should see more action shortly or at least it seems. (Intresting to see what kind of an air campaign can Rob pull off here)

I don't know whether Rob did spot my CV's. I have decieded to move them just in case he did so.

As ever it should be bloody soon.

I guess it would a time to talk about some strategy for the allies now that the initial assaults had been made by IJA/IJN.

China

So far so good. I have had time build up fortifications around the region so Rob will find it tough going here.
I have now withdrawn my troops from Canton. I don't want them to retreat now that Rob can bring in more troops via Hong Kong.

The defense is now made up in 3 sections. Southern China army, Central China Army and Northern China army. There is also reserves which has not been deployed yet. I want Rob to make his move before I will commit these forces.

I will also try my best to cover Chinese bases with fighters so he cannot proceed with his resource bombing campaign. Our houserule regarding airwar at China should make this quite intresting.

DEI

The defense will be divided between Batavia and Soerebaja. Fortifications are building up nicely. Also I have quite a few squadrons here but what I do lack is modern fighters.

I doubt it will be easy capture for the enemy in this region.

Central & North Pacific

The main thing here is not to let Rob blockade Oz. Things have been going up nicely towards this objective. Already I have some strongholds in place and more troops are coming. I guess he needs to be active here sooner or later so you can expect me to stand up and fight.

Basically first the defense than the offense.

Australia, NZ & South Pacific

Same as above. I wohn't let OZ to be blockaded.

Rob already had first taste of what to expect at New Caledonia and more of the same is on the menu.

I will let him capture some bases but when he goes further I do intend to be aggressive.

India & Burma

The freebies here are over. From now on I will try to fight him head to head. Mandalay will fall but it should hold on at least for the time being.

Regarding India I have decieded to meet him front on if he chooses to land here.

Only exception will be Ceylon since I don't want to doom my troops there. If the lands there than so be it than I will try to shutdown the bases with RAF. Thus making Colombo and Tricomlalee huge POW camps.

Here are the thoughts. I will try to flexible and when situation demands very aggressive.

This PBEM has been on hold and as you might have noticed it from Opponents needed forum I have been looking into finding replacement player.

Rob jumped off the boat due to personal reasons. So, no hard feelings or anything like it. We might actually square off one day in the future again. Who knows...

Anyway, I really don't want throw this one away since I think this will be one of my last allied grand campaigns. (I have two other PBEM's ongoing one in Jan. 1945 and other Feb. 1945) I will start one more PBEM as allies againts FDR if he wants an rematch after our game is done... if not than this in 90% certainty will be the last allied PBEM.

I will propably turn into dark side with Japan once one of those PBEM's runs out.

I did get an offer from one other "senior" forum member about this game. (Haven't heard from him since) Now it seems that we might clash with my countryman Sardaukar. (Allthough he has been deported to Malta... )

That is not yet a done deal so fingers crossed that we can continue.

A big thanks also to KPAX who also offered to continue with this. Just goes to show how solid this community is.

As for the game... the battle of DEI, South Pacific, Philippines and China are just ahead of us so stay tuned.

Too bad I didn't heard back from Sardaukar.

Anyway this game will continue and replacement will be Donnie_1974_Texas. We have some additional houserules that Don proposed to keep the game at historical base.

The houserules were regarding Atoll garrisons, fortifications in Atolls and preparation points.

Basically the maxium fortification level in atoll is 2x Airfield/Port (Which ever is bigger)

We had already done our turn so the show is back on the road.

OK I'm here in a support role now (no secrets to be told though )

RL turned nasty in march .. long story involving a broken PC, painful physiotherapy and an exploding TV . so aplogies to Aztez on bailing like i did but i think he'll have a better game vs someone (donnie hopefully) who can concentrate and spend time on it.

P.S I DO know how to use the follow command for land units, either i forgot (was drunk), or my puter hates me (quite likely as it expired just when i needed it )

Good luck and a fun game to all concerned , maybe donnie will take over my AAR
