OK I'm here in a support role now (no secrets to be told though )

RL turned nasty in march .. long story involving a broken PC, painful physiotherapy and an exploding TV . so aplogies to Aztez on bailing like i did but i think he'll have a better game vs someone (donnie hopefully) who can concentrate and spend time on it.

P.S I DO know how to use the follow command for land units, either i forgot (was drunk), or my puter hates me (quite likely as it expired just when i needed it )

Good luck and a fun game to all concerned , maybe donnie will take over my AAR

Cheers Rob! The main thing is that you are ok... and you are far too modest of your playing ability.

I don't know much about Donnie's playing style so It might get intresting for sure.

I actually have my CV's lurking around Canton Island and if he comes near Fiji or Canton the I will sail towards him and clash with KB.

Stay tuned.

I have now destroyed +100 oil resource points at Balikpapan. That indeed good trade off.

China

Japanese are busy organizing their offensives near Homan. It seems that around 30 units present there at the moment.

Since he seems occupied there I decieded to launch an offensive of my own in Central China. I'am marching sizeable force towards Nanchang. (There seems to be 8 units garrisoning the base and after that the road to Shanghai seems pretty much open)

Donnie has launched several assault againts those 20 000 Chinese at Pucheng and been repulsed every single time!  ...this has so far tied down some 70 000 enemy troops.

Other NEWS

I'am keeping my CV's in RED status. Meaning that I'am willing to clash with KB if he enters undesired areas.

My Philippine troops should enter Manila next turn. That will be the last bastion in Luzon.

unfortunately for ME, such an armada can be stopped, in BigB mod easier than in stock. I had a comparable force bombarding Soerabaja where my opponent had everything stacked before we saw any real fight in Java and to my surprise the outcome was as follows:

4 DDs hit a mine (which would have sunk them but they were sunk the next day by bombers) a CL hit a mine and a CA hit a mine (survived)! No escort bombardment was set!! So I was already shocked at this stage. Then the bombardment: boom and counter boom! I destroy not a single plane (despite heavy recon for more than a week with dedicated recon planes) and hit around 500 ground troops. The counterfire of Dutch 150mm guns sunk one of my CLs, stripped my CAs off of their main and secondary armament and knocked out a good number of secondary armament on three or four BBs. So I took some heavy losses (never seen so many mine hits of non invasion TFs that have no escort bombardments set!).

Don´t know what my opponent did very special, he just put all the units on Java into Soerabaja and the 150 mm CD guns in BigB mod can do some serious damage as the ships are more vulnerable.

Cheers Castor!. Btw I have been following your rants and I think you guys did the right thing to continue the game. It isn't exactly "fun" to always start over and over again.

As for the BB bombardments. I mostly get the results you described too! I'am propably doing something wrong too.

Btw, he did not recon Batavia aggressively either!

Not a single mine hit at Batavia... allthough I haven't been mining that aggressively. ABDA airforce did engange the enemy though... (last turn too) ...but just some bomb hits on BB's and those aren't effective.

Ok.. so Soerebaja's guns can be devastating... lets see what happens.. he has another BB TF coming and the target is yet to be know! ...either Batavia or Soerebaja I would assume. (I did change my defensive plan somewhat here too)

Another good thing is that it seems that Palembang has just some 240 working oil resources!!! Engineers did a good job there.

Definately Big B mod is quite diffrent than stock.

Here is an screenshot from Clark Field. I did try to move my troops into Manila which is contested by the Japanese BUT I do have firm foothold there!!!

Japanese keep ground bombarding at Clark Field and while doing so are bringing in substantial reinforcements!!!

All of my units are stuck at 59/60.... %##%%#... <- sometimes you do feel like this!!!

The ground model didn't screw you...it just did what it does.

You have to enter a hex before it is contested if you are leaving another contested hex.

Cheers guys. I needed to vent out some steam.

The ground combat system isn't always to my liking and yes I had read about that rule. Allthough I think IF he wouldn't be ground bombarding my troops would actually move into Manila.

Anyway, a lot of stuff planned and this is a small drop in the ocean.

Ok. More of the same action as previous turns.

That is a total of 11 hits on BB Ise!!! I sure do hope it needs some yard time after this!!! Also I doubt CA Haguro will be ready for immediate action.

Japanese are also conducting daily raids at Batavia, Soerebaja and Madoeng. Some other bases in the region are also bombed.

Also Japanese CV's are again spotted South of Java heading West. I wonder were they are going.

These troops are doomed at the moment South of Homan. I wohn't send more troops to rescue them so they are on their own.

Also Donnie is trying to block my 100 000 men army near Nanchang. He might even succeed with it but it is going to cost him. I'am not going to release more troops into this area either since I don't want to weaken my defenses. Good thing is that I can live with these losses.

Looks like donnie is pulling out the stops in china ! .. brave man imo.

Wierd casualty reports though at massive odds :-

Japan lost more men at 103-1 ! .. thats some seriously unlucky dice . or a new level of ground combat model incompetance

Grats on the kirishima btw .. and yup your right about the oil . he should have left it alone or just taken one with a 200+ AV unit and lots of zeros rdy to jump in.. he's an agressive player thats for sure.

good luck

Hi Rob,

Yeah. Donnie is aggressive player definately. As said the oil production is at 96 at Balikpapan and I think something like 190 at Palembang. Those oilfields are badly hit for sure.  ...I took the chance of hurting him when the oppurtunity present itself.

As for Java... He can soon unleash a lot of troops there but first he needs to transport them there... and I'am far from ready to surrender here. He has Carriers, BB's and most airforce here. I'am trying to maximise the damage in every oppurtunity I get... so the battle is yet far from over.

Yeah.. He played has played excellent at China. Thanfully I managed to relieve those trapped troops at Nanchang which means trouble for him in the longrun. (I can afford to loose those troops near Homan)... I think those odds you see have something to do with the fact that thóse Chinese are completely surrounded. Well, it has cost a lot of supplies and disabled troops so far.

Oh... and yes I intend to pay everything back in China

Elsewhere, I don't know what he is up to... BUT the Rangoon oilfields will be burning when the turn comes in that is for sure!!!  ...that is warm welcome from RAF!!!

Btw, does it matter where you upgrade your CV's??? The bigger the port naturally better.

Port mush have an intrisic shipyard .. colombo/sydney/wellington/PH/west coast are all thats left to you iirc. they'll upgrade when sys damage is <=3 .. damage accumulated depends on the refit size (impossible to tell without trawling through the data base).

Repairing them is the hard part.. imo sail round from the USA 8 AR's to the indian ocean. you'll need them. also send 4 to NZ and sydney too. AS ships in short supply in the IO too. Based on stock anyway. (AS is excellent in darwin if you can hold it)

thats my 2c

Thanks for information Rob. I thought the sys damage need to be <=5 but it might have been 3 as you said.

Those are good suggestions regarding AS/AR ships. I will do some shifting of those vessels. Already have an AS operating from Midway... too early to tell yet whet I can hold Northern Oz. I think the ongoing fight at Java will decisive for that.

Currently I think that Japanese are missing at least following major ships:

BB Kirishima (sunk), BB Ise (Bombed heavily), CV Hiyo (damaged by Dauntless), Quite a few DD's ought to be damaged and couple of CS Vessels.

Also maybe BB Haruna and maybe another CA needs are yard time.

Not bad... not bad at all.

Those battered RN ships engaged the enemy fleet at DEI. Well, I was hoping for better results... but overall these weren't exactly too bad.

Not much but better than nothing I would say!

Otherwise It has been relatively quiet. RAF strike againts Rangoon did not go as well as planned due to the fact that those Bleinheims only managed to 4 oil points. In China the pocket near Homan will soon be squashed completely..  let those 50 000 Chinese rest in peace.

This is a very interesting AAR, thanks guys! I am also playing Big B on Stock as Japan, it's 6/1/42. My game is going very differently.

That is an interesting decision to make a stand on Java; risky, in that you're going to lose the reinforcement troops, but it should slow things down a bit, and you are really pounding Oil around the DEI.

Thanks Q-Ball. I'am enjoying this one too... and the Big B mod is welcomed change.

Well, in my other PBEM's as allies I never fought hard for Java. So, it was time to try it and it has been fun to try.

Allthough I haven't sunk that many ships he has quite a few damaged though.... and there isn't a single enemy unit yet at Java.

In overall terms I will try to be very aggressive when opportunity arises againts Don and hopefully that will result to an enjoyable AAR.

I really cannot say how much those oil hits will harm him but it ain't helping him at least.

...and I can promise that the battle of Java is far from over! ... Stay tuned.

I wonder if hitting the Resources would be better for you as Allies. First, as Japan I think Resources are the bottleneck, not Oil. You have extra Oil. Second, Resources also produce supplies, which you need to fix the Oil, or fix Resources; so, if you take out the Resources, they have to ship supplies in to fix them.

I captured Java with damage to both Oil and Resources; I turned repair OFF for Oil, until the Resources are at 100%. Then, Oil will repair more quickly anyway with the extra supply.

Toboali probably doesn't have an airbase there, but does have a huge Resource center. I would bomb that.

In my game, my opponent has sunk LOTS of transports, mostly because I am sloppy or hazard them without full aircover (aggressive). Flip side, the SRA is completely clear, and I have a number of divisions in Northern Oz, marching to Wyndham from Derby. China is a quagmire. In SoPac, I have PM, Luganville, but that's it; he reinforced Suva with 7th aus, so I withdrew a landing I made there. But I have over 100 sunk ships. Only 1 CL and a couple DD's though for warships. vs. 1 CV, and about 12 CA/CL's
