Do recon aircraft improve the effectiveness of naval bombardment and/or land unit attacks? It seems like they should, but I thought the manual said recon only improves attacks by aircraft.

Can anyone offer some input here?

Yes it does. Detecton levels have quite an impact on combat. Recon as much as you can.

Thanks. This is going to greatly change my tactics. I had been using recon solely for locations that were going to be targets of airstrikes. Now I'll use them for everything else too.

reconning the base doubles effectiveness*

* if using dedicated recon aircraft. You can recon with non recon planes but i don't believe they'll raise the DL (Detection Level) as high.

Yeah, I read that in the manual, but for some reason, it stuck in my head that this was only for air strikes.

Its good to know now that recon also improves other attacks.

Thanks.

Also recon bases you will not be attacking so as not to give your targets away.

Using dedicated recon aircraft makes a HUGE difference.

Every wonder where those "nuke" bombardments come from...

Use -real- recon aircraft as often as you can.

Yup, as allies, use all of the 10 squadrons that you get for the entire war.  They are a bit under represented in the game I might add.

Does that include the Dutch Sqdn's that you get at the start?

It probably does...being a bit sarcastic in the earlier remark, but it is not far from accurate.  I just checked the game itself and the Japanese get 29 units to start with 6 reinforcements.  Allies get 6 to start, with 14 reinforcements (most of which appear after 1943).  I am betting that there were a lot more allied recon sqadrons that 20 total during the war.
