Ok,

What is up with the names this game generates. Jewel Gerleman?

Joan Co? How does the game generate names? Is there a way for my to change the file of names from which it selects.

NO...I don't want to go in and edit every name...I want to put the names in the database that it uses to select names...

Can I do this currently?

The worst names I've ever seen in my life. Sometimes its hard to take it seriously as my friend and I laugh are off.

Names are important to me.

Most games have a log file with alist of names a game randomly grabs from...how does this one work.

you can change the names in the Maindata file.  have to open with access or some kind of database.  the names are humorous.  i think david grabbed a phone book and started typing.  usually if i find one that is really weird i change it but it takes too much time to do them all.  the only beef i have with the names is that common names like "smith", "jones", "davis" etc rarely occur.

That names (both first and last) come from the US census data. First and last names are randomly picked from the list. There is no attept to try and match "appropriate" first names with last names and it's not something I'm going to do.

If you can get into the database you can probably edit those tables as much as you wish.

I kinda like the names. There are definately some odd ones....but no worse than some of the stuff FBpro used to generate. Ah...the days of QB Mohammed Goldberg

But as stated above, they can be changed. Get the database viewer from FBMAX or use Open Office or whatever works, and change away.

****Just remember to back things up.*** I have a constants and maindata file backed up at all times. Im a tinkerer and David made the game tinkerable....so there ya go.

Played a quick game last night. I am building a league and used two teams from it, so they dont have rosters. After random rosters were generated and the opposing team kicked off, on my first play, I had to take a second look when my RB name was Funck. Gotta be careful of typos when typing that name.

Who da Funck?

Hey, Census Data? Have you guys read Steven Levitts book Freakonomics? It is outstanding. Couldn't put it down. It's an afternoon read easy. Anyway he devotes a chapter to names. Why, what and who? Some of the names people have named their children...well it should be a crime.

I once coached kid...his sisters name was Female. What?

I'll live with Jewel Gerleman I guess...it's better than T.O.

I knew of someone named "Nemasis"...it was on his birth certificate.  Talk about being devoted to a life of crime at an early age.
