On my intercontinental business trips witp has been a real joy, my flights (if the battery holds or I have power) feel almost too short, and being jet lagged at a hotel at 4 am is a true joy -> 3-4 hours of pure witp.

Shhh don't tell the company I installed a game on the laptop (without admin rights)....

The only complaint is that it is sluggish after my home computer.

I thought that might be the case. One day maybe the airlines will allow you to load your own game into the "screen" on the back of the seat in front. Now that would be insteresting. if they ever get past the security issues.

Take that now to WitP. If you get up and first turn on your computer "before" starting the coffee or going to the bathroom so this is little time wasted on getting to checking your e-mail to see if you have a turn waiting. I think you "might" have an addiction problem. Then there are those with over 3 PBEM games going at once and are doing Mods in their spare time.

Oh, dear. The wife's right... I am addicted.

But hey, I do wait until after turning on the computer, checking my email and going to the bathroom before having my cigarette so maybe it isn't as bad as... as... as... ah hell, I don't know!

Brad, Andy, where the hell are my turns!!!

I have tried the Matrix "Patches" but they just make the addiction worse.

I have used SPWAW as Methadone between PBEM turns.

Now that was really good! Thanks for good laughs after a horrible day. Really!

One the way!!!! I can't wait to see how much more damage my forces can do to the IJN off Java!!!

I start up the computer as soon as I get up. If there's a turn waiting I go take a shower while it downloads...

Religion, crack, potato chips, what not... At least you don't have to keep throwing money at the problem, or steal to maintain the high. Tithe one time and the addiction is for as long as you can see and click.

By the way, until I sink an opponent's carrier or smoke some crack, I'll never know what any of you are talking about. Both are highly unlikely in my case.

Heroin anyone?

Never had heroin but I can say that there is no greater thrill than sinking an enemy carrier. The hard part is explaining to your wife why you are whooping and doing a victory dance at midnight.

From what I recall of my Psychology degree (Circa 1989) an addiction is anything that interferes with your everyday life. As I have lost many hours of sleep (because my mind was still racing planning the next turn or worse yet the bolt upright in bed at 2am as you realize that you forgot to set CAP on your carriers) I think I count as being an addict.

I can throw in my Master's degree in Counseling here. They say you can tell how addict someone is to Nicotine by how soon they light up a cigarette after awakening in the morning. If you turn off the alarm clock and then light up a cigarette (without getting out of bed). Your in bad shape.

Then again, there are a "few" people here with a significant number of post over 10,000. (i.e. "T") .

Do I have a problem? I set my laptop on a TV tray next to the bed so I don't have to get out of it in the morning? Gee, I hope I am not addicted.....no, that's wrong. I don't care if I am addicted.

This first step to recovery is to ADMIT you have a problem and are powerless to overcome it on your own. I guess you failed on both these accounts.

Can you do a shot of the map and pieces? This is the one where the players start at the edge and head up a path to the middle, right?

Yeah, but without a Zero bonus, how good can it be...?

I had the "Broadsides!" game by American Heritage.  Very cool.  Did you see how much that guy was selling that "Hit the Beach" game for...?  $100.  Not too shabby...

I think I had that one. Little white masts to stick in the little red and blue ships.

I cut my 'wargamming' teeeth on that one back in the 60s'. The game came with a booklet on the Pafic War, that contained the picture below (among others). That game and that picture are directly responsible for an enthusiastic interest in the Pacific War that has lasted some 40 years now.

Ok, it was B-24 and a BB, but I was close... and how could I have forgotten those yellow IJA guys.

I'm going to have to see if I can pick up a copy of one of these games - I think broadsides or something close is still around - to play with my sons (8 & 10 yrs). I am sure *they* will like that.
