Hi guys,

How come there is no mention of this game on the front page?

Being close to release I would think they would want to get the word out.

TonyE piles on , some Matrix hype would be nice around here, even answering the digital download or not question would be nice (though I suppose we can assume there will be a download version).

Yah,

I've been a big fan of the series. I still remember playing the PC version in high school when it first came out. I've pretty much bought every version released. My friends use to think I was crazy playing a game with no graphics. Just symbols on a map.

My wife never understood either. At least she lets me play! Ocasionally. Of course I had to keep the original locked up in a spare room - Cats & little objects, be they cardboad, plastic, or metal, are just incompatable. The computer versions are much more family & pet friendly. :-O

Seems to me that the development and release of the game seems to be dragging on and on and no-one seems to want to make any committment to a firm date - I also thought that if the release is as close as we seem to be being told that it would indeed be advertised on the front page of the web site etc.....

Maybe someone from Matrix could shed some light on the if/when/how please?

Great game Harpoon - spent a lot of time playing the original (for PC) when it was first released in Australia. I actually think I was one of the first to own the game here and certainly let anyone who I thought was interested know that it existed duing my service in the Royal Australian Navy.

I'm half expecting someone from matrix to come online and say "we are delaying the release 7 and half weeks because we went to a 2 day convention last weekend."

Clearly no-one at Matrix wants to respond to the question.

Shame really.

The only upside to the way the development and production of the game is that (in theory) when it does actually hit the streets it should be worht the wait.

Let's not have you all get your hopes up too high now... Sure the game is much better than it was for the last release (four years ago), but we're really waiting on the manual, not more improvements, tweaks, and bug fixes to the game.  The chance of breaking something at this late date (i.e. the last couple of months) is greater than the chance of improving anything meaningful so there isn't much movement on the code, just twiddling thumbs waiting for Matrix, and doing whatever else (Silent Hunter 3, Red Orchestra, Fighters Anthology,... <g>).

All of that said, if Matrix can ever manage to release the game there will be improvements following release, and while it isn't within my area of authority to say which patches are free and which are charged, I'll certainly be arguing the merit of more free and fewer charged (I'm confident we'll add features that will continue to bring in new players, instead of depending upon picking the same pockets over and over again).

Anyway, hoping the expectations don't get too high here, once the game is released we'll be here making things even better, but the game has to get released first, grr!

Charged patches :/

That is seriously worrying. Add to that the way they have taken months to produce a simple manual, it all makes it seem like matrix don't actually give a crap about HCCE, and would rather sit and do nothing than work hard to get the game shipped.

I'm almost at the point of stop caring, come back in 6 months and then see if I can still be bothered buying the game then.

Someone should have replied here earlier, sorry. The summer is a busy time for us - this year there have been three conventions, some vacations, multiple releases and a bunch of illnesses from June through August that have kept us all very busy and apparently less attentive to this forum than we should have been. We allocate resources and scheduling to each release and HCCE is very much on our radar, but we don't have complete control over when each necessary element is finished so that the game can be released. Final release timing depends on everything being done and a window being available between other releases. Once we have that firm release window, promotion and other timed elements kick in.

Regards,

- Erik

Formly the game named Harpoon Classic 2005, now heading straight torwards 2008 - I'm still hoping the game would released this year and do not need additional three years for completeness

Harpoon is my absolute favorit game - Playing the original from three sixty for years. Harpoon 2 was a great disappointment - Also Harpoon 3.7 when i bought it last year beacuse it is still a Windows styled DOS game consuming 100% CPU Power.

Lastly HC97 is my last (Classic) Harpoon Version but it is not much more then a Windows Version of the origin. So now i'm waiting for the release when i saw it at AGSI Website three years before... - Please hurry on that i could spent my nights on Harpoon with all the improvements i've dreamed on.

Otherwise i hope their would be an new modern true Windows based Harpoon in the future - But with the cancelation of Harpoon 4 this dream seems to be over
