Simulated Stats Issue - 6/22/2007 2:48:16 AM

First, I’d like to say that I’m new to this game--been playing a week—and I absolutely love it!

My question is this: I have been attempting to play in Real Major League Players-Career Mode starting in the 1901 season. After a while I noticed I was getting too many homeruns so I simulated out the rest of the season only to find that the record number of homeruns that season was 54 with about a dozen players hitting over 40 homeruns. Not at all historic in its simulation.

I have attempted adjusting the options slider to adjust homerun totals and done this at various levels for about 7 or 8 simmed out 1901 seasons. It has not helped my problem of reducing homeruns at all. In fact, my most out of control 1901 season with homeruns set to 1 resulted in a player with a power of 67 hitting 100 Homers and 238 RBIs. I had about forty players with over 50 homeruns! What am I doing wrong?

Also, this is not a ballpark issue. I have each team playing in their turn of the century park or as a default their playing in West Side Park—over 500 feet for centerfield. Having the teams in these huge, very deep field parks has not helped.

From reading the forums I see that maybe a couple of people have had this issue, but it seems that most do not. I have attepted two reinstalls of the game and this too has solved nothing. Perhaps I have made a mistake in my installation?

First I installed: PureSim2007-SetupRelease-v151DR
Second: PureSim2007-CE-2
Third: PureSim2007-CE-5_Patch

Any help or suggestions that can be offered will be greatly appreciated. This game looks like a tremendous simulation, but I’ve got to get rid of these mega steroid homeruns from the dead-ball era.

May I ask Roberto, if you opted in favor of improving stats over the season, instead of just during the off-season? I've heard a lot of bad things about selecting "over the season"-- it significantly tarnishes and distorts statistics in associations.

I'm a little confused by your question. I haven't found sliders or an option for just adjusting season or off-season results. Is that what you mean?

I would like to go with more realistic HR stats for the whole season. When I leave the sliders alone I end up with guys hitting homeruns in the 40s and 50s. If I adjust the sliders, regardless of direction, I've had guys hit HRs up to 100--guys with power ratings as low as 67. I'm looking to get my max 1901 HRs down to about 15 for the season.

Any ideas what I should do? Should I edit the xml or is their an xml for the dead-ball era?

I know that somewhere, someone came up with .XML settings for the deadball era. I regret that I couldn't point you in the right direction as I haven't the slightest clue about when it was introduced.

What I meant about ratings changes refers to the state of association creation. When you originally formed your association, you would have passed through a few screens before ending up at the 'Association Customization Options' screen. This is the same place you configure such things as default roster sizes, if injuries can occur, schedule options, if you're going to seed you association with real or fictional players, etc. In the top section entitled General Options, there is a box called Player Ratings Change in Season. Do you recall if you checked this box or if you left it blank?

I do not beleive it is a setting that you can change or undo after the association is created, and if you checked that option, you may have to start your association from the beginning-- with that box UNchecked. Still, before you go this far, I'd advise getting input from other players to be sure, before you take such a drastic action.

Now I understand. Actually, I always leave that box unchecked. I think that I did read somewhere that it had a flaw in the way that it affected playes over time. Thanks for your help though.

Drat. I'm sorry I couldn't be of any more help. Still, it may be worth doing a nice search through the board to see if you can uncover the thread about the deadball era .XML.

Good luck!

I believe that I have solved the issue.  It was the ball parks that I was using--specifically the South End Grounds.  That right field fence just wasn't very far away from homeplate.  I have now changed over to stadiums from the 40's-60's, turned down homereuns to 20 on the sliders, and I'm finally getting realistic results.  I hope anyone playing in the dead-ball era sees this thread if they're having this same issue.

Case closed.

I remember when I was new to the program and left ALL the parks alone and used the game's defaults. I had some pretty high scores and wrote a post I actually titled "Hurricane Shaun?". Once someone replied and explained the problem with the default parks, I spent about an hour wiping the egg off my face and learning how to import and change parks. At least you didn't leave the defaults and embarrass yourself.
