Hello, sorry if I am posting on the wrong site. I ordered Highway to the Reich, which is an awesome game but when I received my copy there was no printed manual? I understand its on the CD but I really like to have a paper manual to read and had understood this game came with one. Please let me know if I can still obtain a copy. Thanks for your time and consideration.

Until a recent policy change by Matrix none of the games sold by them came with printed manuals.

I realize what a hardhip this is and have been greatly pleased myself to see that they are now including them.

Unfortunately, the older games produced prior to that policy change come only with manuals in PDF form.

I was so enthralled by HTTR when I got it that I took the extraordinary step of printing the PDF to create my own manual.

While a tad expensive, it was worth it to be able to get a grasp of this outstanding game engine.

I feel your frustration and can appreciate it, but unfortunately for the older Matrix releases there is no alternative.

Unless you are ready for sticker shock that will cause heart failure...don't go to Kinkos.

I did that and Whooooooaaaa is all I can say.

My local Kinkos charges 85 cents per page to print PDFs.

The printing of the manual would have cost more than the game.

I printed it at home on my ink jet printer...which ended up costing me almost $70 as it pretty much used up my ink cartridges.

Whichj leads me to another topic...has anyone ever noticed that they practically give ink jet printers away now just to get you addicted to buying the outrageously priced ink cartridges?

Luckily for my I have access to a laser printer at work so all subsequent manuals in PDF form I have printed on that machine which spares my ink cartridges at home.

The high cost of printing output was the "cost" I alluded to in my first post.

I have discovered that Kinkos is reasonable on binding costs thoush as I put my first home printed manuals in 3-ring binders which are not convenient to read while sitting at a computer and leads to many torn out pages. Kinkos recently spiral bound a 250 page game guide to Gothic 3 for me fo $4.99.

The high cost of self printed manuals is a very big reason why I am so happy to see that Matrix is including printed manuals in new game releases.

Actually, the next one is already out and unfortunately it was released prior to the policy change on printed manuals. The follow on game in teh series is Conquest of the Aegean...it is a great game with many refinements and improvements to the game system.

I love this game system so much I became a beta tester for the next one, Battles from the Bulge. I have done a partial AAR of a scenario from it on the BFTB forum on this site. Take a look, I think you will like what you see.

That's odd - my copy of HTTR came with a printed Game Manual. The Map Maker and Scenario Maker Manuals were pdf's though.

Mine too, but it was one of the rarities that had store retail distributions - my UK copy is JustPlay and I think the North American version was 'trisynergy'? There might be a few copies of that release still floating about on e-bay and such.

Hey, everyone. I actually have owned HTTR long enough to have purchased it in a store in like, 2003 when it came out!
I'd thought I'd lost the disk and game, but I recently moved, and found the game, so I wanted to start playing again.
I don't have the manual, though.  I found the disk, but no manual, so there are a lot of things I don't remember.

Also, it appears as though the Manual is NOT included as a PDF with the original game disk I have.  (The map maker and scenario maker are PDFs on the original, just so you know I looked carefully for the gameplay one).

I'm wondering if anyone out there can send me their PDF manual file so I can at least have that?

Also, since I go back and forth to wargaming from time to time, what other games based on this engine (specifically for WW2 era) are out there.  I know of Conquest of the Aegean; anything else?  Is CotA as good as HTTR?

Thanks

Welcome Heliodorus04.
You won't find the HTTR Manual when you browse the CD, but it is included in the installer and should reside on your computer in C:\Matrix Games\Highway to the Reich\Manuals\Reference Manual.pdf with the rest of the manuals.

Even though Market-Garden appeals to me more than Marita-Merkur, when it comes to playing against the AI I enjoy playing COTA more. There have been several developments that make the AI a more challenging opponent. And resupply is now a lot more realistic.

For the next title in the series, the name which will be changed from "Airborne Assault" to "Command Ops", we will be introducing Battles from the Bulge.

Check it out here

Sim, thanks for the reply.  I just finished looking on my C: drive in the location you pointed out.  Unfortunately, it's not there.  I have the map maker PDF and Scenario Maker PDF, but that's it.  I just re-installed on Friday, so I'm thinking I have SUCH an early version of the game, it must not have been included (because when I made my purchase in a store in 2003, my game came with a really nice, thick, useful hard copy manual).

Can anyone take a moment to send me a message so I can provide my e-mail and obtain the manual?

Thanks for the tip on CotA; I'll look into it.

Helio

Have you installed the patch? I think the PDF manual was included in it.

That did it.  Thanks.  You gotta have 2.1.7.9 before you get the manual.

I've been playing ... for a few days now ... in anticipation of BFtB.

I passed over CotA but will not pass on BFtB. I still enjoy HttR a lot; even after playing it for several years. I'm getting familiar again with interface which is one of the best of all games.

I look forward to the Bulge coming out soon ... I hope. I've been saving my gaming money for it.

A great wargaming engine it is.
