Is R&D nation specific? For example do France and Britain have to independantly research trenches?

No - Research and Diplomacy is done as a side, the rest is individual.

Thanks.

I have another question if you don't mind. If you move the BEF to Europe do you need to keep transports on amphibous operations to keep them in supply or do they get supply from the other TE nations?

If however you sent the BEF to a place without plentiful supply, such as a port along the eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea, you would need to put at least one transport on a supply mission in the sea area bordering that port so as to improve the supply.

AS the rules say - each transport on sea supply increases the supply at ports in the same sea zone by 25%.

In France you already have 100% supply from friendly cities, but at Scutari or Gallipoli or Salonika you do not, and the additional supply will be pretty useful.

It seems to me that whatever nation you research tanks/assault with, you can only train with that nation.

As Germany i got assault/tanks, but only Germany could make them. Austria and Italy simply couldn't.

IIRC from the Beta it is per side, not nationality.  However whether each natinoality of a side can use such advances or not is a 2nd question - so if the TE gets tanks you can get French and British ones, but not Russian.

Austrian assault troops were of limited number and effectiveness, and are more easily simply not represented and/or seen as tagging along on the coat-tails of German assualt troops. Italian ones would be seriously hypothetical, since they require Italy to join the CP in the first place!! :)

I recall this discussion from way back in beta testing specifically because of the potential for Russian tanks!
