Main difference is scale
In SP you control each tank, squad or gun
In CS you control platoons sometimes sections

Hello,

You can get a good feel for what MCS games are all about if you've ever played Steel Panthers 3: Brigade Command.

Main difference is display. MCS is iso-metric 3-D view.
Of course MCS are much prettier and work on WinXP.

If you go to page 11, there's a thread with some discussion on this topic.

yes,  platoon vs unit,  also morale is handled alittle diff in each. i really like both games. Gimme a TurnBase tactical ww2 and i am happy.

I just had started DGC, but have a lot of expirience of single player Steel Panther (no pbm), SPWAW and SPWW2/SPMBT. My impression so far is:
SP is a lot more detailed. Each vechicle have armor thickness, slope, spotting rate, ammo capacity, relayability, damage rating, survavability and more. Guns could have different ammo - sabots, HE, AP. Supply is handled by supply truck, which should be moved next to the unit. Infantry unit is squad. Hex is 50m
In JT campain weapon and armor abstracted into defence rating, weapon characteristics abstracted into hard and soft range slopes. Unit is platoon for evereything. Supply is instant form HQ. Units couldn't run out of ammo, go into ammo conservation mode instead . Offboard artillery is always next turn. Guns seems have no splash damage, because the hex is 250m
SP seems more flexible in the assembling and upgrading core force.  Player can not  assemble core force in the JT campain, it's handed to him at the start. It seems player can not have regiment-size force in the JT-campains, only battalion, brigade or more.
All that mean that SP have more micromangment, and each battle take longer. (I had usually played single battle week or two in SP). I hope in JT campans battles are shorter.
JT campain seems harder. I had played SPWW2 and SPWAW at AI advantage 200% without big problems. JT campain I have trouble with medium level difficalty. After a lot of SP playing JT campans looks like fun.
