I am going to give 1955 a go.

A lot of greats got started here.

I do have a question though :

When I get to 1961 and 1962 will the AI expand (if I tell it to) and draft the correct players or do I need to intervene ??

How would I see that the correct players are on the right expansion teams ??

Thanks and I am going to get started.

BTW : I now have 2 backups : Portable and "Off Site"

From my experiences with expansion, I can help a little, but you'll still need to do some juggling, regardless.

When you choose to expand, you'll be prompted to set your 25-man protected roster. The AI will then cycle through an expansion draft, using ALL available free agents AND all the non-protected players. Where the players will end up is at the whim of the AI.

If (and it may be too late, alas) you are set up as Multiplayer, with ALL teams under human control, you would be able to protect 25 guys from EVERY team. This would save you some time, because you would have LESS players to put back where they belong.

I'm assuming here that you want historically accurate rosters. If so, my only advice is to let the AI do its thing, putting players wherever it wants to. After it is done, go back in, using "Edit Player", and put them on their proper teams. IMO, the expansion function is great, but is more designed for fictional assn's.

So, staying reasonably "real" takes quite a bit of work. That's fine.

Using real players is my preferred method, BUT, I don't expect them to perform as they did in real life. What's the fun in a strict historical replay? Once you start moving players to different teams and parks, who knows what could happen?

Thanks guys !!

If I set to "Multiplayer" and I assume I will be commisioner, if the teams are set to CPU control will the AI make moves until I switch them to Manual ??

What I mean is set on CPU all the up and down moves releases and signings will still be done by the AI ??

If you choose a Multiplayer association, you will get a screen where every team has a choice of either "CPU" or "HUM". You can make every team "HUM" if you desire. With every team that's listed as "CPU", the computer will make all roster moves, lineups, rotations, trades, etc.

What worked well for me was making all teams "HUM" to set the initial rosters. Once the season was underway, I would "Auto Adjust" all teams' rosters and lineups weekly, bi-weekly, or following a DL-length injury. This would take some of the burden off me and put it back on the AI.

If you decide to try out the Multiplayer mode (and don't actually have other players), make sure to leave the FTP site information blank.

Have fun!

One thing I forgot to mention is that you cannot manage games in MP mode. You can control all of the settings, lineups, etc., but AI will manage all of the games for EVERY team. This setup is so a "real" MP assn can function without the commish being able to cheat.

Hope this info is not too late to help you.

Thats fine !

I usually just Sim anyway.  I found out about that a while back.
I also like the fact when I sign players that were not signed by teams I do not have to set them to Human to sign them. As Commish I have POWER !!!!!!!

Thank you again  I will let you know how it is working out !

whoa...hold the phone. if i want to have my "own" multiplayer league - say, manage 2 teams, one in each league - i can't do that at all?!?!? Is this an option that can somehow be disabled? Unfortunately I'm thinking the answer is no.

that would be wildly disappointing.
