Tweaks, changes, improvements, and pretty much anything else fit to be in an update are included in this massive release

Matrix Games and the TOAD Team are happy to announce that they have released another update for The Operational Art of War III. This new update will include dozens upon dozens of new changes and improvements.

A few of the enhancements and changes include:

  • 33 NEW or newly revised scenarios
  • New advanced flanking rules
  • A tweak or two when using nuclear weapons
  • Some balance changes for helicopters and equipment transported by helicopters
  • Some optimizations for running the game in various screen resolutions
  • More realistic weather patterns (and improved cloud cover patterns)
  • Much more!

David Heath, Director of Operations at Matrix Games, said “This latest update is positively massive and will no doubt give TOAW III fans all they asked for and more. The sheer size and effort that when into this update is absolutely representative of the TOAD Team’s commitment to making TOAW III all it can be.”

James Mathews of the TOAD Team added, “My team and I have put in a lot of hard work to bring about some really substantial improvements to The Operational Art of War III. I hope gamers enjoy the improved gameplay and countless tweaks, we’re quite proud of the improvements we’ve accomplished with this latest release.”

The Operational Art of War is a legendary title among wargamers. A masterpiece of flexible design, it allows you to play and create any battle from the entire 20th Century of warfare and up to the modern day. Now, Matrix Games together with Norm Koger and a new design team bring you the definitive release of this unsurpassed operational wargame – The Operational Art of War III. Over 130 of the best scenario designs of the last five years are included in The Operational Art of War III, along with more than 70 classic TOAW scenarios from the original series. Spanning the years from World War I to the recent Middle East, these scenarios show how flexible and powerful The Operational Art of War III truly is.

Get more information on The Operational Art of War III from its official Matrix Games webpage. This latest update is comprehensive and will bring the game up to version 3.2.29.27.

Simply execute the patch. It will "clean up" some things from the beta patch, so you might need to readjust some ini files if you were using special settings.

Thanks, James - figured it out myself in the meantime and backed up my opart 3 fonts.ini file.

Yes, that's a mistake. I pointed that out to them on this thread, but it doesn't seem to have sunk in...

Wow...you've been a registered user for 2.5 years, and this thread brings out your first post? Screw every other benchmark of success that TOAW III has already cleared - this one here takes the cake!

    Thanks, and enjoy!

hehehe, there are some classics, I'll always play :) Purchased the Matrix Steel Panthers update a while ago, another classic and enjoying the updated version of it.

Updates such as that, TOAW here and WiR are a great :)

A newbie has asked me and I'm not sure the answer - does he need to download all patches or the last one is enough?

Any idea about a new patch? Will there be one and if so, when is it likely?

    Just curious.

per http://www.operationalwarfare.com/post/2008/12/18/Elmer.aspx#comment , Ralph and his testing crew are working on it now, but no early Christmas present.

We will have to be patient and get it "when its done."

    I can wait...
